 Post subject: Mk1 reinforcing floor before Crack

Hey guys just seeing whats the best way to reinforce my mk1 floor were the rear gearbox mount is before it cracks.

Thinking its probably best and easier to do now before it cracks.

A metal plate bolted on from the inside to spread the stress on the anchor points fixed mine. It's a bit of mucking around but not too difficult if you apply logic to it.

Ok mate sounds good just wasnt sure how much extra support it needed. I was reading where guys had constant issues with it cracking.

Would be nice to weld in a brace from the chassis rail across to the tunnel and join to that. But im not sure how much of a real issue the rear mount is

Bolts fixed mine. Initially tried welding but the bloke had too much heat and burnt a hole in the floor setting fire to that body protection black stuff. A long time ago but still remember the floor on fire!

So you just bolted a plate on the inside thru the existing plate? Or did you make it bigger and bolt to the cross member plates and the thru the floor

Can someone please post a photo so we can see what and where you are talking about.. Our Mark ? is getting it's transmission and engine fitted in a couple of weeks and doing proactive stuff like this is always good when you have an empty car and empty engine bay... Cheers ...

Will get some photos in a few days when I come home. From memory I think I drilled some new holes in the floor for the metal plate. Stay tuned.
