Good to see a Baleno section and the forum
Might as well start it off with pics of your Baleno and any other details you want to post.
Here's mine.
1996 GTX original owner - Ingis Sport Rims - OMP Strut Brace - EBC Brake Pads - O2 Rush Air Filter - Alpine Head Unit - GTX 18 Personal Plates.

Thanks Akil
I have just lowered it and am loving the handling. I've always wanted more so I am trying to source a JDM 1.8. I had also thought about a 1.3 from a GTI Swift or a turbo (or both ).

My 1.6 GLX from 1998
15" rims and some audio is all that is changed. The front will get lowered, it gets a sporty backbox en the badges on the rear end will be removed. Also front & side indicators in white and crystal clear taillights.
Maybe a Suzuki Sport skirtset.

She sure is, and it has a stablemate in our garage:
If I could find a 1.8 GTX wagon at a reasonable price then I'd have a Baleno too.

I have not seen that many balenos with sweet stereo set up. i am sure there are many out there. so please ppl post some pic of yr system, i want to get some idea of what can be done in the baleno.
I don't have a big stereo system but looking to get something put in soon. I will also put the pic of my car in this post as soon as i can work out how to do so

Some very nice looking rides there guys, didn't know balenos could look this tough/clean ect. Coincidently probarly some of the first pics i've seen of modified balenos.
The only thing I don't really like about them is the rear lights which look like the old swift sedan ones.
Have they always been available in sedan form? I don't think I was aware they came as sedans?

You think? I can't see a similarity at all!
But yes Balenos have always been available in Hatch, Sedan and Wagon versions.

Actually I agree with Gards here. When ever I see a baleno sedan, it always reminds me of a swift sedan. It like the swift sedan Mk4.

this may be a bit of a silly question....but i've always wanted to know..
i noticed some baleno gtx says in yellow text- "GT X" on the side of the car -near the wheel acrh....and some, like mine says GTX 1.8 DOHC in white.
Was it an option when u buy it ? or some thing completely random

That's a good question mr t and i am not sure of the answer. But when my brother and i were looking at them we found various different things like : some models had the GTX imbossed in the rear bumper and side skirts (like moulded into the plastic) and others have had the yellow stickers + some with no stickers or badging. I know you could get a couple of different interiors with them and maybe the stickers etc were a dealer promotion sort of thing if you know what i mean.

A lot of dealers made there own badges, never seen the GTX logo/badge embossed into the plastic??
One dealer model was a Michael Schumacher model.

The GTX badges were mad up in batches, random thing.
No option on badges.
Mine has the GTX in an oval with another small badge under it with the words
1.8 Direct Ignition
I think will have to check.

If you want a set of genuine AMG Eclipse 18 inch chromes in good nick for their age I am selling mine with tyres(will need to be replaced soon) cause i'm getting light weight rims for racing. If you want pix mine are on page two of this topic. I want $1000 cause their genuine AMG's from Bob Jane and I can get tyres for cheap for you or anyone else that is interested. I'm not in a hurry cause the car is off the road at the moment.

I think our cars were twins seperated at birth , nah looks good, my kit has sustained some damage, im guessing its been on the car for quite a while. in my opinion its a much better kit than the off the shelf jetspeed one. if you look at mikals bars they really make the car look good, but he payed some pretty big prices. got any more pics of the rear wing?

haha !! I recon !! Would look good together in a photo shoot hey !!! Yeah the kit on our baleno has been on for 6 years haha !! After those shots were taken on the weekend (the ones posted) I have now decided to buy new mesh for the front bar - didnt realise how terrible it looked lol !! Yeah I agree, much better than the Jetspeed bar. Ummm i have this photo of the rear wing - haha its a custom job done by my partner, its the original baleno wing with a GTi wing moulded to the top !! Didnt turn out too bad and its original

Even though our balenos are almost the same im pretty sure urs is better . Red suits the baleno much better than white does. I need new rims aswell. What type of springs/suspension do you have on the car? What size wheel and profile of tyre? and do you get much scrubbing? Thanks

How do you guys stop the rear bar from rattling loose all the time? Its so heavy it won't stay fixed properly.

haha that is a hot baleno hey !! I havent seen one done up in white - and you are right that pic looks soooooooo much better !!! We have lowered heavy duty kings on the car - 17inch wheels. We only just put the 17s on it not too long ago - and it kept scrubbing all the time !! A mate of ours works in suspesion and we discovered that the car had NO boots !! AND ....... the struts were totally gone - I mean totally stuff hahaha We have put new struts on the fronts, which has stopped it from scrubbing and rolled the guards!! Just need to do the back now haha.....
Have you done any mods to your engine?
My rear bar has never rattled loose ?? The only time it did slightly was when some idiot backed into it at a servo - other than that we havent had any probs.

Ah k, i got kings on my car aswell and currently have 14" rims. im thinking about upsizing cos the car really needs it but was concerned about the tyres scrubbing even with the guards being rolled. As for mods, i havent been able to get anything because i had to pay for a brand new head to be fitted as mine got a huge crack in it and the bearings in my gearbox went so had to replace those. lots of $$$$. but its got catback exhaust (pretty much just for the sound), pod filter, and some sort of aftermarket cam, you can feel and see the revs fly from 4000rpm and onwards, which probly explains why the head needed to be redone, its the 1.6 model aswell so its not that powerful.

Yeah well you should have no problem scrubbing - as long as you dont change the rolling diameter of your wheels. You may need new shock absorbers though...just depends when they were last replaced. Ours used to bottom out soooooooo much !!! unitl we put new ones in.
That is a lot of money $$ - we have gone through 3 gear boxes - had them all rebuilt hey - and that set us back a bit.
1.6 are fast haha !! Our old motor used to beat GTi swifts, 1.8 GTX, etc. We just recently rebuilt the engine - we have put a gti twincam head on the 1.6 block, ECU, cultus pistons and cams, adjustable cam gears, MSD ignition and a few other small mods. Its got a long way to go though....hasnt been properly tuned - or should i say tuned at all !! Even though $$$ was spent to get it tuned haha - long story......
By the end of the year we plan to get the head ported and polished, bigger fuel rail, fuel pressure regulator, lightened flywheel and hopefully some strong brakes to pull it up lol

Ah yeah so u've done quite a bit to ur baleno, when i got the head redone i should have asked for the gti head to be put on. Im a student at the moment so i cant really afford to do much, but ive been very tempted to buy a gtx and go down the turbo route as a project later down the track.

mine: A rather very stock 96 GS that just ticks over 200000km... and another picture at Lake Mountain 2, 40kg girls in the back keep the butt planted enough through the icy twisties.. and 2 blokes, totalling 130kg up front keeps it front heavy

Hey CEL21, it sounds like that u have done a bit of work on the engine. So how does the twin cam conversion go? is it an easy swap? ill be putting my car in for a rebuild this weekend. I havent put any pics of my car yet but its a 2000 model baleno T/C g16b engine. Goes ok but needs more boost.. When it is all done. ill post some pics on the forum. ahahah that will probably b about a months time. Ill take some pics of the rebuild and post up. Cheers Jimmy

Hey Jimmy, Yeah there has been a bit of work done to it but a lot more needs to go into it. A dodgy job was done so we need to get a few issues rectified. We have actually lined up Robbie Bulger’s engine builder to re-work the engine a little more. We are now expecting 200hp at the fly – with the weight to ratio it should give a few cars a good run for their money !! Hows your rebuild going? Wouldn’t mind seeing some picks Celina

Bought this just recently after a long search for something suitable for racking up 30,000kms a year ( viewtopic.php?f=8&t=51937 ). Very glad I managed to find it with yet another Suzuki - Very happy, not really had a chance to get to know it yet but drives nice and tight and plenty of torque. Certainly doesn't seem as quick or "fizzy" to drive as a Mk1 GTi or an Ignis Sport, but in a different league bopping along the freeway. Nice and quiet and happy sitting on 120. Slightly squealing accessories belt (not present on test drive!) and a buzzing passenger front speaker only annoyances. Thinking about popping the Ignis Sport wheels in the garage on it..
