Rims to Fit IS

Hi Folks,

Just joined the club, i own an Ignis Sport and want to replace the standard rims. i was thinking on the lines of 15 x 7in on 45 - 50 series tyres, as i dont want to rub the guards. has anybody swapped rims for this size or are 16's the better option? and does anybody know the stud pattern the IS is and what other makes have the same stud pattern.

Stud pattern is 4x100, If you're upgrading, I reckon 16" would be the best bet (but it's all up to personal taste and priorities).

Standard wheel offset 45, PCD 4x100, center bore 54.1

I've been told some Maxda 323 have a compatible size but never tried it.

I got a set of 15x6.5, offset 40 alloys and use 195/50/15 tyres and it seems to work well. They fill the arches better though a bigger diameter may look better if that's what you're ater.

ya thats what i want ,is to fill the flared guards out a bit as well as improving handerling i didnt really want to go bigger rims just wider so more tread is on the road i think the standard rims look a little silly under those flared guards :P

just fitted 15x6.5 rims running 195x 50 series as suggested definitely the way to go fills the flared guards out nicely , handling is much sharper and no rubbing on guards ever ,now what to do with those silly original rims n tyres , there only done 40, 000 ks still had another 10,000 or so ks left on them . they probably make a good boat anchor as my local tyre fitted suggested. why Suzuki put these rims( 5 inch wide ) in the first place on the IS is hard to understand.

Totally agree. 15s I can understand but why 5 inch wide?

Yep. My tyre guy couldn't believe it either. Of course by then he'd already ordered 195 tyres, so we just slapped them on anyway. They're ballooning at the side, but at least I won't scuff the rims on a gutter.

Be careful its not unheard off for tyres to roll off there rims when cornering I definitely would not put that size tyre on that size rim. I bet that things squirms about like are bag full of worms, ballooning tyres should automatically tell you this is wrong . And I doubt it would even be legal . My advice sack your tyre fitter and get yourself a set of rims 6,1/2 inch wide before things go horribly pair shaped on you. :?

Yeah - he said run them at 38PSI and they'll be fine. He was a bit reluctant to fit them too.

It's only 10mm wider than factory. Surely Suzuki wouldn't spec a car with a tyre that's 10mm from popping off.

The 185/ 55 original tyers were surposed to be fitted to at least a 5 1/2 inch rim not a 5 inch rim . 195 should be fitted to at least a 6 inch rim . The japs put ultra stickey tyres on them originaly so they would handle ok . You got to remember japanese dont travel often a speeds above 60 ks big diffrence to those that do and pressures that a put on the tyre when you do . There was a factroy option for 16/6 rims for export models so i guess the japs did know .You are running the gaunlet there. get your self a set of 6 1/2 inch rims before disaster strikes.
