Okay, been reading a thread about fuel consumption in the New Swift forum, and I was surprised that even the Swift Sports could do almost 500km on a tank of petrol! Now I wonder if I floor my car abit too much, or is my driving habit just uses too much fuel, but I average about 450km a tank, pushing it I could do 470 MAX, and that's putting my car in neutral more than I usually do, before I really chicken out and have to find the nearest petrol station.

How do you all compare with a tank of premium? How far do you go and are there any tricks?!

TBH I don't think about it. Life's too short!

I've found that 450kms is the average. The fuel light normally comes on just after 400kms.

You can push it past 500kms, but there's some things which I find dramatically affect it:
  • Heavy traffic
  • Additional passengers
  • Short trips

Basically, cars suck up more fuel if you add more weight, the engine is cold or you're starting and stopping often.

On the last GOR cruise I pushed 500kms (an entire tank) in a single day, mainly because the engine was warm when I filled it, I was on open roads and my passenger was short. The fact that I hammered the car through twisties all day didn't make much difference.

I'm still not convinced the IS has a 41 litre tank
I've driven it till the needle is actually on the 'E' for empty, filled it with 15 litres of fuel, & the gauge reads 1/2 full
When driven lightly I get 500km easily

Slightly off topic but under about 1/5 or 1/6 full I get fuel surge, esp on left hand bends and under braking. Reckon it's not good for the engine so I try not to let it fall that far.

Yep, one of the first things they did to the rally Ignis was install 5 fuel pickups in the tank. That's why.

You're not alone on that one, I get fuel cuts on left-hand bends when the tank is low. When the needle goes past the 'E' I use that to measure the amount left. The more it does it, the less fuel.

Oh, and I've been using 100 octane E10 fuel lately. Goes rather well in the IS and is cheaper than non-ethanol 98 octane stuff. Pity there's only one station in Melbourne that sells it.

premium100 is currently only available in Albury & Bayswater in Victoria.

Bayswater is only 10 mins from my house... but it appears to be far less available than VPower Racing. However VPower racing is a rip-off. Ethanol shouldn't make fuel cost more.

Ah, so that explains the issue I noticed test driving today on an empty tank. Some car dealers are so slack, I had to put $5 in so I could do a decent test drive.
