I had the odd Polo come up against me - all have failed miserably. Haven't been up against a GTi though.

Not really but TBH I don't take much interest in straight line performance, I only get interested when it gets twisty.

Still I believe they handle very good , I tryed against its big brother GTI Golf made the ignis look very plain indeed its turn it was quiet exceptional had chassie balance to die for , just was wondering if little brother was as good, make are great second car for the mrs , pricey thoe even second hand mid to low 20s. :)

The reviews I've seen say not, but I haven't tried one myself.

Ill just have to go and try one, Germans in my opinion do a better job then the japs , but there cars are just to dame expensive in oz . I dont think to many would pick a swift sports over a polo gti if the prices where the same. Still I enjoy the IS for what it is but a bit more poke ( 20 kw more ) a slightley better brake package and I think the polo gti would look very second hand . But atlass it wasnt to be. :)

Probably true but I would. Revvy n/a over lazy turbo every time for me. Don't care if it isn't as fast, it's more fun.

To right ,The Ignis sport is a good little package but not a polished one , and yes for the price teriffic bang for your buck, but is the polo gti that mutch better to ask a further 8 t0 10 grand extra second hand on average ? Big ask I think . Never the less mrs likes the look so I better track one down and fine out. :)

Yeah, I agree. People shouldn't think the only thing that makes their car better than another is the overall power figure. You gotta look at the overall package. I believe Jeremy and the Stig made this quite clear when they reviewed the Vectra Turbo.

But northern exposure's first post seemed to be asking specifically about the acceleration figures.

No not just straight line speed but over all , Handling, braking etc, Just a simple comparsion If the polo GtI is That mutch better or Is it over priced for what you get . Bang for your buck so to speak. :)

having driven a Polo Gti I say they are pretty decent little cars. very light on steering, hold the road well. and have decent amount of poke. like mentioned above, for 2k can get ecu remap and easy HP gain. I know of a Polo with exhaust and ecu remap pushing around 165fwkw.
