When you turn on the ignition, before the engine fires, all the warning lights show - you know engine, ABS, etc. - do you get an immobolizer light amongst them? (I'm guessing bottom right of panel, orange, car and padlock symbol)

Handbook shows one but mine doesn't light up. Dealer said there isn't one but I think they're wrong, so would help me to argue the case if I know other Aussie-spec Ignis Sports show this light.

Cheers, Jon

Checked my car last night. No immobiliser light comes on prior to starting the engine either.
The handbook says it should come on for a brief moment & then disappear before you start the engine, but this just shows that the actual bulb in the dash is working.
If it flickers then there is a fault with the immobiliser and have it checked out.
So my only query is why doesn't it come on when the handbook says it should?
Maybe someone with a service due soon can have this checked out

Thanks - that is the same as mine. I was expecting that 'bulb check'.

The specs for Ignis Sport said should have an immobilizer fitted in Australia. I asked a guy with a sport in the UK and his does have the light come on. Also with a good torch and a lot of persistence I think I can see the outline of the symbol bottom right of the panel, but it never lights up.

So yes, if anyone else can say if they get the light or get it checked out with a service that would be good.

The icon exists on mine, however does not light up...

The car however does have an immobilizer.

If you lock and unlock the doors quickly, in some random fashion, then try to turn the car on, the hazards will turn on and the car won't start, so i'm guessing its done. I'm guessing the same works if you lock the car, then open the doors via a window, or from the inside, the immobilizer isn't disarmed, so it won't start then (i can't do this however, my alarm goes off and its very annoying.

In this immobilized state, the light still doesn't light up however.

Easy way to check if the car indeed does have a transponder style immobiliser in the key is to get a spare key cut.
The new key will not have the RFID in it and therefore if the car does have an immobilser system the car will just crank away and not start.

Generally the factory immobiliser systems kill the camshaft and or crankshaft sensor signals and at this time the immobiliser light would presumably light or flash.

The Baleno had a very crude add on system to which was remote controlled and all it did was cut out the starter motor supply from the ignition switch.

You say that you locked / unlocked the doors and the car didn't start? Was this via remote control? I would say it is possible Suzuki Oz cheaped out on the factory transponder immobiliser and fitted a add on locally like they did in the Baleno.

My Wife has a 2001 KQ Laser and it does a flash of the immobilser light when car is started... If you start it with a cut key it will start and stall straight afterwards along with flashing of the immobiliser light.

Interesting.

It's not a remote-activated one, but from something in the key. I had a similar system in a Peugeot. Also I think it is a factory fitment.

i am a mechanic at a suzuki dealer. I also saw this light and asked if spare parts could price an immobiliser. It turns out that the immobilizer part number is not valied in australia. So they cannot be ordered for a suzuki dealer.

I had some keys cut last week
The guy checked out my car key
He said it definitely had an immobiliser chip in it
So the IS does have an immobiliser but I'm wondering why the icon in the dash never lights up...
Cost of getting a new key cut with the same chip built in was about $100
Not sure how much Suzuki charges for a replacement but I imagine it would be more...
