To be fair, the VRX with it's 2.4L N/A motor is a great all-round car if you can live with the underpinnings being a decade old. My mother's 2012 Lancer has been flawless since new.
As long as you're planning to hang onto a Mitsubishi as a long term ownership, the resale
shouldn't be an issue. I agree with Brayden that reliability is generally pretty good - my in-laws have also had a good run with their '08 and there have been plenty of product improvements in the meantime.
Capped price servicing is also pretty reasonable compared to other makers, and there's the 5 year warranty too.
With the back seat headroom being important, the CJ/CF Lancer isn't going to do the job, so consider a manual ASX - same mechanicals and heaps of both headroom and cargo area. Availability of a used manual transmission ASX could be a problem as the majority of sold units are the CVT (and you don't
want one of them
) With a bit of intense negotiation, you may be able to pick up a new manual ASX for low 20's...
Re the Kizashi - have you checked out the rear seat headroom? I agree that you should be able to get a good deal - be prepared to shop around as they are also a bit of a scarce commodity.
If you think that you want to go down this track, send me a PM and I will contact Suzuki Qld to see which dealers have them in stock.
