I like to think this the site bends to user's requirements (within reason) so have gone ahead with a trial of locking For Sale threads in the For Sale - Cars forum, so only the original poster can post/edit their posts. This is an attempt to stop unwanted post spam in the thread.. and may potentially be moved over to the Parts section as well.

Please treat the vote seriously as it will affect how the forum is used (not to say we can't change it back if there are problems)

I found myself in a pickle with this today. Haha.
It does stand for a positive in the cars forum, as it will cut the crap, also the tyre kickers. Not so good for parts, as many people have good input, experiende with certain parts, etc, so feedback could be removed.

Only downfall in the cars forum, u can no longer bump ur item..? Unless some feature is added where it can be after 3days of sitting, or somethin, as some other forums hold this same rule.

Thats my input...

Seems ok, bad when you want to ask follow up questions because the OP did not provide enough information, or pics. Keep replies for the parts section, helps when making a 'part out' thread.

The interesting side effect to no bumping is that your post will stay on the front page longer after initially posting it.. because other threads won't bump above you.

Since changing this only 6 car ads have gone up.. so they are getting plenty of exposure.

There may also be a way to allow bumping, will look into it.

Does an edit to your ad bump it up?

Nope.

-edit-

OK have just added thread bumping to this section only. If your post is more than 10 days old.. in the thread listing box above your post (and below the New FS, New WTB buttons) there will be text that says "bump topic". If you click this it should solve the problem.

I am having difficulty testing it because I don't have a for sale Cars thread there that is more than 10 days old... also want it tested as a standard user.

So if someone has a thread more than 10 days old.. check to see if you can bump it and let me know how you go.

I voted good for cars, not for parts.
At the same time, with the cars it is sometimes good to have replies, some people are able to help with questions other people have. But then there is alot of people just wasting time.

I think that there should still be an option to add post to a "for sale" thread......
At least then if an item for sale is of poor quality or overpriced.... some poor newbie doesn't walk straight into a lemon or buy some Cultus manifold for $1500 or something thinking its the going rate while all the rest of us watch powerlessly.....

If people talk sh#t about what somebody has for sale without a very good just cause.... issue them a warning or something?
People just have to learn to be more considerate and have better manners in there posting sometimes... :P

Kstar its a pure case of buyer beware.

anyone buying cars should at the very least know approximate prices of complete cars. and without seeing the car in person most others only offer speculation if the deal is worth it or not.

If I was a seller I would like to have an option to prevent others from posting. Some of the drillble on FS Cars thread was atrocious. I think sellers have a much fairer chance of selling their cars now.

just my 2c worth

Im glad people cant reply to any forsales. The amount of time I have had sales sabotaged by idiots or perhaps people wanting to sell similar, is uncanny.

Just looking @ the for sale section
There are lots of cars that have been sold, would it be worth adding a child forum or archive to this for sold cars?

Just a thought to clear it out abit

Cheers
Mark

the seller can delete the post once the car is sold there is a little red cross(delete button) at the bottom right of the post

But I strongly suggest against it for the benefit of everyone else..

Read the for sale rules.

I really don't think having the sold cars there is such a massive obstruction.. enough to warrant the workload to manually move them to another section.
