Just a heads up that it may not look too fantastic visually for the first few days as I sort it out. CSS/template insanity is getting the better of me at the moment and cutting into my testing of the migration.. but I still want to get us over this weekend. So I can use the volume of the masses to determine what should be fixed first when the site comes back up :)

Plan to kick it off tomorrow night, probably around 8:30 -> 9:00.

Good luck with that Sam. Teamswift looks the goods (although I did like my garage..). I sure the effort you put into the teamswift migration will pay dividends for redlinegti

I've recently done the upgrade to PHPBB3 on my site (http://www.ubermotive.com/forum/index.php) and I must say it was quite an effort. I didn't have many mods at all.

I had to wait until someone had bridged the gallery (coppermine) to work with the PHPBB3. I'm sure Sam would have a LOT more work in that department.

The colour scheme was actually quite easy. I wanted green, and I just worked through the stylesheets and hue-shifted all the colours using a colour picker tool. I then hue-shifted all the raster graphics. PHPBB3 has cut down a LOT on raster graphics. Only had to do a couple of icons and that was it.

All in all, the extra features are great, and the whole thing is XHTML 1.0 compliant (basically there's no weird cross-browser rendering bugs). Most people on my forum were happy with the change. I turned off signatures because they seemed to get in the way a lot more than PHPBB2.

And Sam, as I said - hue shifting is the quick and dirty way to get blue into red. Just measure the hue of the red you want, subtract it from the blue you've got, and shift EVERYTHING blue by that amount. I did mine in about an hour, although I must admit I gave up 3/4 of the way through.

Good luck with it, Sam!

One thing I neglected to move over was the for sale templating system.. I actually had a better version in the works (that would whinge if it wasn't filled correctly, and not let you post).. so that will come a little later too. I think keeping the for sale section so standard is what makes it workable.

I will probably kick this off a little earlier, perhaps 5:30ish. so read all your PM's now :D

For me, visiting this forum just now is like putting on a pair of underwear on a cold Canberra morning - you get a shock but warm to the change pretty quickly.

You could fit at least 3 GTi's side by side now :)

I apologise to anyone running 800x600.. (which was sadly the original res the site was aimed at... been at this too long!)

I'll give it a whirl on my 1920x1200 monitor tomorrow. Should look better than on this 1024x768 POS.

Site looks great Sam, thanks for the time and effort you put in!

Hey, this is fantastic! I can't believe how smoothly you did that (I accidentally dropped by database without a backup when I attempted mine).

It still looks like RedLine. Mine looked completely different by the time I was done with it. I guess you put a lot of work into the stylesheets.

Have you taken advantage of using the software to enforce banner pic dimensions?

Yeah spent about a week fiddling to get everything to convert correctly.

Haven't started playing with the banner pic settings yet.. will get there :D

Yeah, I'm lucky to find 3 hours uninterrupted. So I just made a copy, ran the upgrade and uploaded the copy. Did it in a weekend, albeit the site was down for most of it.
