From the pics it shows! You have been a busy boy. More pics of the lip please. Micks car, well we are waiting on the turbo, then intake and exhaust manifolds. And money, he has spent close to double what he paid for it on parts!

Went well, was more a shake down than a practice for me though. Found a few small issues that will be fixed before the first round (Feb 19), but was really happy with how it went. AS my sig says, I managed a 1min 27.078 via my data logger (GPS based) which has a function for predicted lap times which shows that it can do a 1min 25 (driver limits pending).

Sponsor decals being applied. Working on interior pics for those that wanted them, just have to clean it up a bit. A BIG thanks to Morpowa ( http://www.morpowa.com.au) & ASI Silicone ( http://www.asisilicone.com.au).

DeTune wrote: Hey, you have a pic of how you mounted your trigger wheel onto the crankshaft? Nope don't have a pic, also mine isn't off the crank, its off the cam, I have used the std dizzy, but modified it so that there are 2 Hall Effect senors, one for Home and one for trigger (they are offest to each other so not to reference the other.) you need to grind off the extra teeth on the standard shaft and add another point for the home signal. Mine uses a screw into the shaft (shaft was drilled and tapped). Then the ECU is set up with offset etc. Not sure on this as that is what my tuner does.

Possible to get a pic of this setup?

Car has been tuned and don't want to have to go and dyno it just to check that all is back together correctly. If you have a workshop doing the tune and wiring they will know what to do. I suggest you talk to them about getting it done. I can get it done by my guys, but I will warn you know, its not cheap.

I won't promise anything, but will see how I go next week. Have round 1 this week end so won't be touching the car for obvious reasons. I might be able to get away with just taking the casing off and leaving the base in the head. Will see what I can do. I have found some photos but they are very bad and out of focus and would be no good to you as you really can't see much detail. Leave it with me.

Doesn't leave much room for any delays, hope there are no accidents or oil to clean up or else I can see race 3 being cancelled unless there is track lighting Every year one of our multi car sprints is a twilight event, starts at 2.30pm and runs to 9pm, since it's always in the middle of winter it's dark by 5.30, last one was about 3'C and pouring with rain, couldn't see a damn thing and it was so cold it was close to freezing, we started with 40 cars and there were only 9 of us left by the end of the night, was extremely scary since I only had 048's and some of the tracks configurations were run in reverse and there's definitely no track lighting, my super cheap spotlights were pretty lame... running a track in reverse and not being able to see or know exactly where it goes is very unnerving

Being Feb we get sunset about 8.30 anyway, but will be an interesting first meeting. Considering I have never "Raced" before let alone raced in the dark.

Simon make sure you have a big bag full of nice soft CLEAN rags and meths or other window cleaning/anti fog products, you'll end up with sunstrike at that time of the day and a really clean window can make quite a difference, not sure what your helmet is like but when I race really early or late in the day I ditch my full face Bell and use my old motocross helmet because it has a huge front peak/visor on it, just dip your head slightly and it shields the sun out of your eyes Just remember, if it rains put more pressure in your tyres not less, wait aren't you running 048's, you're fooked if it rains I'd say good luck but thats bad luck so just have fun, got races this Sat too, first time for 6 LONG months, had testing on Tues, almost ready

Dattman wrote: Yes I have heard that 048's are exceptional in the wet. Hopefully it dries out enough. I have bigger problems at the moment, the driveway is still dirt/gravel down to the workshop/shed and the amount of water we have had might make it fun to get the car/trailer out. Bad news Simon, light rain is worse than heavy rain (for Mallala). And from my experience AO48's are absolutely useless in the wet. Its like iceskating. We'll have fun regardless.

Week end went well. Lowered my PB by 2 seconds, now in the 1 min 25 bracket. Think I can crack the 24 soon enough. Had some great battles with an EH during race 2, managed to get past him in race three and then pulled away from him.
Looking forward to the next meeting now.

Means he is a provisional licence holder. Need to get the COC to sign off your licence at the end of each meeting. I think its 4 signatures and you come off your p's. Did you remember Simon?

Why are all you bulkhead fittings the same size, and why are you using 400 series hose?

Any progress? is that just a box to hide all the equipment to be fume proof? I put a lexan cover on mine so I could see at a glance nothing has leaked.

Why not run the surge tank and pump in the engine bay then theres no need for the box/bulkhead and all the hoses.I used to run the std tank with std gti pump, use the std steel fuel lines to engine bay,run the feed line into a 1lt surge tank, gravity feed from st to bosch 044,return from reg to surge tank and overflow from st to metal return pipe, very simple and not much weight.

Box covers the lot to be flame proof. Just made it simple (well the workshop did). Cheers for the comments Dave. Not a bad idea re the tank in the engine bay, it's all done now sonwill stay like it for a while. Will post pic later of finished product.

Mine, had a problem with a hall effect sensor, it had taken a whack and was overheating and shutting down, giving me a random miss firing problem, chased it all week end then worked it out Early sunday morning and pulled the pin so it didn't break anything else. Rather dissapointing!!!!! The black Honda from WA is going to be something to see at the nats, its dropped the U2L record by over a second and I think it will come down again at the nats.

Plenty going on. New ECU, New front brakes & lines, New airbox, New seat/harness, Ally radiator, relocating the oil cooler to suit new radiator, 4.4 gearbox to build, 1044 cams to go in. Just struggling with time to do it all.

Its either time or money...or both.
What sort of drop in lap times are you hoping for?

What sort of drop in lap times are you hoping for? Im hoping he adds about 4 seconds a lap. Somehow I doubt it will work in my favour. GTP

No mate I think there is some time in all that, the cams and seat will add the most to your lap times. however the older rubber this season will take some of it back. but re-rubber and you'll be gold. How did you get on with the brackets?

A set of Yokahama 050 medium compound will be worth 2 to secs a lap in your GTi

Well if I go from what is said here and I get a second from the cams and the few other things plus the 2 seconds from the tyres, with everything else being equal that should just about equate to the under 1600 lap record.
Somehow I doubt it will happen though.
JP, brackets on hold machinist is ill.

THis brakes set up looks absolutely business , but unsprung weight may go up a bit? , then again the amount of braking power may outpaced it

Unsprung wight increases by about 1.2kg's per corner. the calipers and bracket are a lot lighter than the standard GTi gear its the larger disk which is heavier. the alloy parts maintain the gain to as little as possible. The gain being confidence inspiring brakes all day long no matter where you are or what your doing. The hotter mine get the better they work, suggesting I haven't found the limits yet

I didn't actually weight the components I took off. But this would be simple to do as I still have the rotors and standard calipers sitting around.
As GTP has mentioned, the new rotors are a fair whack heavier, but the increase in brake capacity negates that. I haven't had fade or anything over a length of a race, even with cheap shitty pads, these came at the right time and I was able to make the change along with a few other thing that are happening at the moment.

It looks like a great setup! I'm Super keen to get the same thing on my build as soon as the funds are available. Its great to hear how well they work in a proven track setup as well as I'll be using them for track days/hill climbs and daily duties onedayGood to see this work in progress too. I love seeing the GTi race cars evolve and continue to push newer "better" cars
