Trawling eBay i stumbled upon yet another GTi up for grabs.

Being in a remote area of Victoria, the odds of it being bid on were low - although for an un-rego'd example it wasn't exactly the cheapest car around.

eBay add as follows:

1992 Swift Gti This is an unmolested vehicle which has in the last 9 months, had quite a bit of work done to it. It has not been driven since all the work was done, so everything mentioned below is basically new. The Koni suspension and Kings springs alone account for over $1500 worth of parts.

It has as follows:

New Koni adjustable suspension front and rear.
New King Springs all round - std ride height.
New front discs and pads
New strut top bearings.
New poly suspension bushes all round.
Fresh Brake fluid.
New tie rod ends.
New door check straps.
New door seals
New qtr window trims upper and lower.
New rear muffler - std
New door blackouts
New interior door handles.
New shift boot
New pedal rubbers
Recent new screen
New wipers
New front seat belts

The car has a very good interior, is all standard but needs a wheel alignment. Original steel rims with all tyres in very good roadworthy condition. It has tinted windows and a good stereo with Ipod connection. The body is straight and original but has a dent behind the LH door and a small crease over the RH rear wheel. Everything works for a RWC. Equipped with remote central lock, alarm and two keys. I have spent over $4k getting to here. It is now ready for RWC check and would be a great base for a full restoration or just drive as it is. A lot of the work has been done.

Knowing that a lot of the things done to this car are big dollar items, i took the plunge and won the auction.
A full day of road tripping later i had the car.
Vicroads offer un-rego permits up to 30 days for 1 off trips and to meet registration/roadworthy bookings.

A quick session at my local mechanics had this GTi cleared for rego, and not long after that she was on the road.

It is as close to factory as you see these days, Southy sent down a decent set of factory GTi hubcaps to top off the look.
Its a survivor car, and although tempting to muck around with often do you see them these days!

I had done a general tidy up, Degreased the bay, full service, replaced the airbox with a better condition fully enclosed one, got her the new "JDM" style Victorian rego plates (with custom SF-413 combination)
Considering its running on all new poly bushes and koni shocks, i tracked down a TurbineTech underbody brace i sold a few years back. And gave her a little tickle by putting in a chipped ecu thanks to Gtaye.

What it needs:
Front left CV is shot, as is the FL wheel bearing. Both of which i have coming in the mail this week.
Needs a decent bit of rubber on her, so will look for the best combination for the factory steelies.

Once again - well done for making the effort.

It's great to see a tidy original car has found a good home with a forum member.

Nice original car! There are certainly not many left like it...

If I may offer some advice on tyres (?) If you intend on using OEM steelies I would suggest using the OEM spec. tyre which is the 175/60/R14. They are still available! Here: ... g-comfort/

It is surprising how the original spec tyre on lightweight rims really puts a decent amount of 'charge' into these cars! Even more surprising is that most folks have forgotten these days...

I'm running the same tyre spec. on mine without complaint.
