Assembly started August 21 2016

Considering when the motor started 1/2 its journey it was May 2015 it has certainly been a journey thus far.

Engine wise; this was the light appearing at the end of the tunnel. Being the far end of August; most if not all teams for WTAC were already out on track and smashing out laps of Circuits around Australia.

Seeing it come together; is an emotional experience.

Well worth the effort; well worth the investment.

PPM also provided Rods and the initial pistons for the project.

The money you have thrown at the car this year is nuts. =D> =D> =D> =D>   =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>

Might be time next year to have another Hatch Attack shoot out to show the thing off with Luke's.
A dyno will tell you anything you want, the 1/4 mile will tell you the truth!!!!

The last 12 odd months have been cheap :^o

There was some rework involved (switching from a Worthy girdle to a single piece, changing pistons, and about 100 other things that crept up.) These were the time killers and the pocket emptier it seemed.

Always remained positive as this is truly a work of art; obviously Luke's is a step further with AWD conversion, and even crazier turbo and manifold set up. He also isnt building sticking to the limited club sprint rules; so expect to see a lot more from him! he is one crazy f&%ker!!
Each one of the 3 will be very unique as there are built so different to each other.

Hatch attack.... i'm in, no question about it =D>

Would you make the haul up from Tassie?

Might even be able to entice the illusive CappaWpn up to QLD!

Looking good!

Did you o-ring the new block? Have you driven this car since WTAC 2 years ago? Looks like power is going to be handful now
With NA you get no turbo lag.......Wait, actually you have permanent turbo lag

Ceramic coating sure does make it look a whole lot better.

Have been watching this with intrest, have any of these blocks been run on dyno ?I guess they will have to pretty soon if your going to make time attack.
what amount of boost are you hopeing to run?what sort of power atw are you aiming for.
Looking forward to seeing your results after all this hard work, see you at time attack.

Not 1 of these blocks has yet turned key; so it will be an interesting 2 weeks =P~
Boost wise will be increased throughout the tune; however i'm aiming to turn lots of laps not just 1 lap. 40psi would be nice and hilarious; so we will aim at that.

Prepping for this year has been hard as the time involved with this thing is crazy; hopefully the pain is worth it and it holds together for many campaigns. Aim is to run Vic Time Attack, SA Time Attack and WTAC next year; actually get some enjoyment out of the car

Not really concerned about the power at this stage; but there has to be a hero run on the dyno doesnt there?

Well its the weekend after WTAC 16, and the first chance i have had to sit down and write up something for the forum; back up in my now home in North West WA, mid 30's sunshine like nothing ever happened (WTAC withdrawals much?)

So whilst enjoying a nice Johnny Walker and dry; and watching the dog have a swim i will try to sum up the last 2 weeks.
20161022_122623.jpg
Everyone following progress on social media and here would realize that 7 days out of WTAC there was still plenty to do; also that having not tested it was always going to be dangerous waters. Smart builds have small modifications done in increments with testing in between to make sure the changes work. After 2014 the chance of developing the car in a sensible time frame was the objective. The mining downturn, the development of Lukes HPproof block and long lead times with parts really pushed us to the end. But that's 1/2 the fun.

so, 7 days before i flew out from work heading East. This flight was full of uncertainty. The car had just been started under its own power for the first time; exciting but nerve racking. A block with so much modifications; so much welding, so much machining anything could happen.
A fair investment of not only money but a combination of shops times to get it where it is.
Not only Lukes 100's of hours, Cave hill engines dedication to making sure its right and true to Ravage Raceworks time in ensuring the whole thing fits back where it came from.
There was an issue; in which i thought was far behind me. The choice of using a custom MLS gasket as part of a group buy was a poor one. The gasket although top dollar; didnt provide the seal required; the fire ring on the gasket sat just outside the bore and was far too close to the coolant galleries. even with an insane amount of head tension this failed within a couple of dyno pulls.

1st Dyno pull before the failed gasket shows how promising this motor is. Not running the big cams or solid lifters until the motor proves itself; and not leaning on the motor at all it pulled out a 250kw pull. Cant wait to see how this motor progresses in the next 12 months!
14484839_1135815529799596_3175035724572673254_n.jpg

It's here where i thank my lucky stars and the entire Suzuki community for assistance. Phone calls with the racers in the community had me concerned of the lack of genuine gaskets in the country! Zuboo provided quick assistance offering up a gasket he constantly has on a waiting list  at suzi-auto, good thinking on his behalf. But being a friday it was not going to arrive before the Monday...which would give us 2 days to put it back together, tune and get it onto the truck. Time we didn't have!

Luke Burkill (HPproof) had a spare that he had already modified for the block; small modifications required to the gasket to accomodate the 12mm head studs and the larger dowels. and with a quick call to Southy a deal was made for him to courier the gasket to Gundagai where we would meet him..roughly half way from Syd to Melb. Thanks to Southy for sacrificing a full friday night for the cause!

Pistons came out of the motor for a quick health check to ensure everything was A-OK.
Gave me a chance to take a snap of the crazy crank brace and cap design in the car; absolute work of art.

Davies Craig EWP a tight fit
20161008_131650.jpg

With the Gasket in my hands, and back at Ravage it could go back together. The idea of making WTAC as easy as possible on the untested motor and drivetrain, some efficiency modifications to run less boost for about the same power result where done. Cooler piping was made for a much more straight and direct route; as well as adding in some Plazmaman clamps to make sure the cooler piping didn't blow with big boost pulls.

Sunday before WTAC was crazy, the weather that SA had copped only a few days before had reached Melbourne and was devastating!
Place looked like a warzone; and plans of working on SRSGTI were quickly erased when we recieved a call from Dean Lillie for an extraction.
On his way to the shop his monster XD falcon had clapped out its distributed and he was stuck right in the middle of this s**t storm.

All we had was a Pulsar and a snatch strap at the time; not that it stopped us.

With the car all together, oil cooler relocated to adapt the new cooler piping (intake temps with the new piping in race conditions were 34 degrees!) it was time for final tuning, ready for a road test.
20161010_165255.jpg
More efficient flow did make a difference, so much so that a new fuel pump was sourced to keep up. having no fuel cell, swirl pot or external pumps was pretty hilarious at 250kw; however the intank Walbro 255 just couldnt keep up any longer.

With no time left, a Walbro 460 was purchased to get us through WTAC.

Ready to road test

Back from road test in one peice, minus the underwear.
SQS gearset shifts amazing and car pulls harder then a teenager.

Wasn't exactly the smallest set up; but we carried a whole workshop with us, fuel, tyres, and has a cabin with bunks and all the creature comforts. We were very privileged to have such great support! Ravage Raceworks know how to be track ready!

Hanging out to hear the final power for the current setup on "big boost" too [-o<

 Saw a post on Facebook; and its been a few years so thought i'de pop in.

- Got Married
- Worked and lived Regional WA for multiple years
- Re-Centered my life around close friends and family (turned 30  )
- Neglected SRS for 2.5 years as it sits in storage

Have been hired for a role in NSW; with the company recently relocated us to the Southern Highlands
Approval from the wife to dust off SRS in Victoria and bring her to NSW on strict conditions
Goals for this year are small; however getting back on track is one of them; being an hour from Wakefield is good.

Hey Thom, hope your Handbrake is as generous as mine and we see you attacking the tracks again.
If "X" is an Unknown quantity, and a Spurt is a drip under pressure, then an "EXPERT" is an "Unknown Drip Under Pressure".
Why dont they just call it "Womenapause" instead.

Dirt was only skin deep; looking just as was left.

After a scrub, looking better

The was left as is; which was a little time capsule after 3 years; spares, tyres, tools, merchanise even the race gear was all in place as it left SMSP in 2016.

The fun begins now; entire loom requires inspection and replacement where necessary. Everything needs to be checked front to back; and this time its about taking time and enjoying every step of it. Don't expect to be racing for at least a few months; but i'm in no rush. plenty of stuff to do in the shed now; so i will tackle the issues 1 by 1.

 The wife is getting violent...but slowly sneaking in some progress.

Again; keen to get out on track and start enjoying it so doing things the car needs to be reliable and enjoyable.

It needed to be a bit neater as the last 2 big pushes were late nights and last minute ones.

Car is getting a birthday;

New undercar surge tank and 044
MoTec PDM15
MoTec 8 Button box
AEM CD-7 dash and
AEM Vehicle dynamics module
Complete re-wire into PDM15
interior tidy up

Some carbon as part of a 2 man group buy:

I typed up a large post about how 2020 can leave early if it wants.
It took so long that redline logged me out.

Thanks 2020; thanks.

Summary:

Green Wattle Creek fire happened; impacted but not burned..many down the road were
Covid Happened; comodity price dropped and got made redundant #-o
Somehow got made un-redundant
Zuboo was thinking about hatch attack 2.0 on social media
Figured if this was to happen, it wouldnt be for at least 12 months
Coz Covid; and the world is against humans atm
pulled finger out of anus and started repairing and improving GTi
