Great to catch up at the track today

Thanks for the video & photos

Great effort by Graeme today to break into the under 50sec club

Massive effort by Scott to break Daves long held record

For me it was an interesting day switching between the 13"Toyo RA1s & the Yokaham 15" 050s

Next year will be very competitive for all

Cheers Steve

Cheers Steve .. and thanks to all drivers for a good turn-out .. success is getting behind the wheel and doing what others can only dream of

Very glad to talk to some of the people who have put Suzuki GTi on the map in REAL terms

I had a poor Saturday with a faulty AFM but replaced it Sat night and ran 3 PBs Sunday to finish with a 54.70 and a class win. Could do with some fresh rubber instead of the 8YO stuff im running. Well done Graham and Scott, keep working Steve and four wheels is better than two (both left wheels a metre off the black stuff). The rest of the GTi clan should make a 'Tour De Force' next year and support our newcomer Oscar, not forgetting old oldies Lawry and Alan( I think hes close to 80), oh and Sasha in his Mk1. See you next year. Lawry

Hi all, I figured I'd better stop lurking and actually sign up :P

I'm Oscar and like to thank all the guys for welcoming me into the fold so warmly this weekend. I probably wouldn't have got down to the times I did without their help, at the end I was pretty much at the limit of my bravery in some points and near the grip limit in others. Bring on next year and some grippy tyres!!!! (the 16s and nankang rubber were approximately as bad as I thought they'd be, but no point wasting good rubber first time on track :S)

For anyone who wants info on the car:
It's my daily drive that I bought it from a redline gti member (phat gti) earlier this year (I think the post is still in the forum somewhere). Since then, the only changes I've made was replacing the tint (for roadworthy cert) and throwing a set of pacemaker headers at it.

I would highly recommend that anyone who's even thought about getting on track to do it, it was even more fun than I thought it would be. S2 CAMS licences are easy to get and getting a modern road car like the git to pass scrutineering only requires a fire extinguisher and some race tape/ clear film over the lights.

You didnt tell me it had BD14 Cams and a chip, but as it stands BD10's are better on the hill.

I think you'll find those are tripple webbers or similar on the toranas and not throttle bodies.
great photos though and leave the fords alone...

Well .. triple Webbers is a bit more individual than the single rochester that usually sits on the average Torana :P

yet Dean (Tighe) keeps telling me to put even more aggressive cams in it, lol

To be honest, the combination of the extra rpm the chip allows me (has a 8600rpm limiter) and the extra mid-range from the pacemakers (they're tri-y 4-2-1) allowed me to keep the thing mostly on cam on the uphills (once I was able to reliably hit the mark without hitting the limiter)

on another note, does anyone actually know the limits of what modifications are allowed in the 'production' class at Mt. Cotton??

We had a planning/suggestion evening at The MG car club

Next year when you register for the Tighe Cams Hillclimb series you will have to fill out a specification sheet supplied by the MG car club detailing every modification that your car has

The technical committe wil then make a decision on which class you are in

The exception to this is if your car has a CAMS log book. The jasstv GTi is log booked 3J Improved Production 0 - 1600 cc and we are not required to list the modifications

From my knowledge of your cars I suspect you will be in the 0 -2000cc modified production cars class

well, i guess that means no-one will ever beat dmwdaves record for the class now, I don't see any genuinely close to stock car getting within 5-8 seconds of his time :P

edit:-
is there a chance there could be a modified up to 1600cc class? just seems a bit unfair to throw swifts and corollas up against the stuff in that class...

A couple of years ago we were all in the road registered class

It was great with us battling for .. of seconds, but the MG car club had the idea that if they tightened up the regulations they would attract more people with standard road cars to the hillclimb. It not happen

The problem you end up with is heaps of classes with very few people in each class

If you do not build your car to a CAMS class ie Improved Production in our case you cannot compete at State or National Championships

My car is log booked 3J but is still road registered with a blue plate for engineering

To tell you the truth Graeme, Scott & I have more fun when we get entered in the upto to 2000cc invited class with in the case of Noosa Historic Hillclimb 16 entries in our class. It is great fun beating the larger capacity cars

At Noosa Scott, my car & Graeme came 1st, 2nd & 4th which ended up out of 167 entries 19th, 21st & 43rd

The trick is not to worry about the larger capacity cars & set up your quick car & drive your nuts off

It is more about power to wieght. Where we lose out is TORQUE to get up the hills

Cheers Steve

Cams and mg car club fail to move with the times, the rules are still aimed at the older cars, makes it hard for a modern modified street car to run in a class that's worth running in, where the sprints at qr, lakeside, Morgan park are getting bigger and bigger, 50 cars was the max 5 years ago on a sat once a month, now they get 120 and turn people away, they run mid week sprints, top gear, and qrdc. The classes are simple if it's got rego it's street if not than it's race, street run street tyres and race can run anything, then they just devide you into engine size for your group. Guess it's one of those cases where less rules work better, most times people just want to race and have fun.

Just like it used to be for us at Mt Cotton

Better to have heaps of cars in a class than heaps of classes with only a couple of cars in each

SIMPLE
