Hi Ross!

Nice to hear from you, Man! :D

You've officially been added to the List. I spotted you a month or two ago on Brookton Highway while I was out in my white GTi... I tried to wave but our combined head-to-head speeds were simply too great!

Everyone else:

To Re-iterate: The meeting point is the boat ramp next to the Belmont Race Course (UBD Map 269- Grid Ref. J-12 or Google Maps Coordinates: -31.953478, 115.898230).

Directions: Peel off Graham Farmer Freeway at the marked exit and you'll find us just after the Main Grandstand and on the Swan River side heading eastbound... look for the speedboats! I would like us to convene at 11:30+ and we'll be departing at 12:00 sharp! A few of us are on pretty tight schedules due to work etc... so apologies for the 'Suzuki-Cruise-Nazi' stance!

I will, however be sending a PM to all who have responded to the EOI with my mobile number in case you are truly running late!

As always: Please ensure that your tyre pressures are adequate and that your fuel, oil, water, brakes and (clean) windscreens are all in good order...

(*adopts Obi-Wan Kenobi voice*)

"The Jundland Wastes are not to be travelled Lightly"...

Cheers,

Drew

That's ok. I'll take that on a chin, but don't forget I have seen yours as well. Even if you shaved, cover them in fake tan and wore a mini skirt you wouldn't get as far as Midvale. Better yet pics or ban

Rayven met and invited a mystery gti driver today (not of redline yet) hopefully she can make it to the cruise
That would make two possible newbie cameo attendances (fingers crossed)

Fark, I might be a tentative myself if I can't get my car fixed in time! #-o

Got it back from the suspension shop and struck trouble almost immediately. The very first time I went into a reasonably hard right corner (roundabout), there was a bad shuddering coming from beneath. Cornering hard left is fine and so is accelerating and driving in a straight line. It only does it when it loads up on the right.

Took it back immediately and said: "Please explain" as the car was driving perfectly when I dropped it off. Two of them scratched their heads for a while, but they are not really mechanics... just suspension installers. Even though they themselves had changed a wheel bearing on that side, they reckon maybe driveshaft (?) The shafts have only done 1500kms since they were replaced! :x

So they suggested I take it around the corner to an exchange driveshaft/ cv joint supplier for a second opinion. They were even worse... vague as hell on top of it being Melbourne Cup day afternoon.

I then took it home to my local mechanic who knows my car well and he reckons that they have probably knocked the shaft loose from the diff when they changed the wheel bearing on that side. He didn't have time to look at it and neither did I because I had to fly out almost immediately for work. It does seem to have some play and there is now grease coming out of the boot on the outer c.v.

Fucking great eh? Spend close to 2 grand and go home with a fucked car... some 40th birthday present this has turned out to be. My mechanic is confident he can sort it out and will do a report on what he finds... Guess who is getting the fucking bill!

So anyway, I've got it booked in the day I get home again which is the Friday before the cruise. I'd have a go myself but I'm busy that day and the next with a previously arranged appointment. Hopefully it is an easy fix with no real harm done... my mechanic feels confident that this will be the case. If it isn't an easy fix, then I'll have no choice but to cancel the cruise at the 11th hour and reschedule for Sunday the 11th of December instead.

Sorry about this everyone, but I'd rather warn everyone in advance now, rather than leave it.

*End Rant*

Drew

I might just take you up on that... for now, I'm stuck out here in the bush for a fortnight pulling my hair out and not being able to do a thing...

Cheers,

Drew

Ive had this problem myself. I think its a case of the circlip needing to go back in its groove.

Two things to try:
1. Jack up the wheel slightly and give the wheel a sharp kick.
2. Jack up he wheel slightly. Place a large center punch into the middle of the drive shaft end. Give it a few taps with a great big whacky thingy.

I would go with option 2 because option 1 is a bit ghetto and unlady like [-X

I am having dramas of my own too..

Hyperdrive wont be able to sort the idling issue on my car till after the 28th Nov, but i will still come and drive like a pig if the weather is HOT!!

So being a smart ass in the meantime, i thought of changing my timing belt, camshafts and put on adj cam gears.

Hope i don't fark anything up while doing all these.. If i get stuck on doing the timing belt tensioning, I might need help from you guys.

The rest seems pretty straightforward i hope...

Markus,

Thanks for that! Much appreciated. :)

That is exactly what my mate the mechanic reckoned was wrong. He suggested that he will pull it out and snap it back in... and also check that they haven't somehow fucked up the bearing install as well. As mentioned, I simply don't have time to do it myself due to family comittments... ahhh... the joys of fly-in fly out work.

Hey, Blommer!

Got any of those intermediate bearings still floating around? I'll grab one if you do... might as well kill two birds with one stone!

Cheers,

Drew

changing cams and even just adjustable gears with std cams will screw up your tuning

Adj cam gears are actually stock gears with the centre bit customised, so setting it zero like how the stock gears are shouldn't affect anything.

The camshaft that will be going in are cultus cams with similar duration as STD cams with a tad bit more on cam lift.

Just tryin to all at once when the timing belt is off.

The issue with my idle problem might potentially be a simple fix of grounding of the CAS negative wire.

Fingers crossed all works out..

don't be too alarmed if she runs a bit rough. Just watch out for pinging . For the idle, just raise it up some, the cultus cams are lumpier at idle.
