Hey this is mikal with the silver baleno (j20),
Akil, tell the dudes on the forums that a j20 is a lot cheaper than doing a different engine transplant, cos mines making 120hp at the wheels N/A.
I'll be seeing you all at the good friday cruise.
See ya.

tell the boys at suzitech to be careful with turboing the j18 cause I have found the diferences between the j18 & j20, i'm currently building a race spec j20 for my baleno:
The j18 crank is hollow, the j20 crank is solid
The j series engines run internal oil pumps which feel and look like plastic, apparently this makes it hard to intall an oil cooler
The rods are long and thin, no strength for boost
Finally the cylinder ports in both j engines are hollow, when I say this I mean there is no reinforcing at the top of the cylinder port, when u look at the block you can see the ports and in between the ports from top to bottom where the coolant flows eg: ej20 wrx blocks.
I will try and get pix up soon showing these problems.

Hey mr t installing the j20 is actually easy, all you need to do is swap the oil sump from the j18 to the j20 and swap clutch and flywheel, that is it. I can honestly tell you that a j18 engine does not make 100hp unless the throttle and plenum is changed, when I intalled the j20 it made stock 103hp atw, my j18 made 83hp, when I intalled the microtech all it did was make the tune clean giving me 106hp, I changed the plenum and installed a xf throttlebody, this gave the j20 120hp atw, I do run extractors microtech which didn't do much but the secret to making horsepower out of a j series engine you need to change the throttle.

Though the j20 crank is solid its still not a forged item. Late Suzi engines and parts are mainly made in china, india, mexico and indonesia. Very thin rods and internals are weak not really designed for boost or serious performance. Suzi G series have a much better record of reliability in 20 years than the J and M have had in 5 years. Quite pathetic for a legendary company but expected thanks to their confused direction and no longer aiming at simply made, reliable econo-boxes.
Either way A g16b will make 125-130hp with mild cam and good headers and is about 30kg lighter important for FWD.

Updating bad information. J20A crank is actually a Forged item. And yes J18A has a cast crank with hollow pins.

excellent find what J20 is that from or all J20 engine have that crank? Do the later J24 have cast or forged items? either way J20 has better short stroke if only the showroom prototype kisashi came with a beefed up J20 turbo 2 doors and awd with rear wheels electric driven when needed like the toyota Estima hybrid which even the 2003 model gets 18L-24L/100km lugging around 2 tonnes of body and people just look at showroom and released model blandness http://driver.pk/cars/suzuki/suzuki-kiz ... -pakistan/

All J20 cranks are forged. J24B has forged crank And rods. I had a Kizashi, nice car but very expensive for a Suzuki, if they built a performance version it'd be too high priced to sell.. remember the firstSwift Sport models? Didn't seem to filter out of dealerships until they had clearance "sales" and they were still a lot of money for what you got (had a 2008 yellow one as well) The crank in the J20B/J24B has smaller mains than older J series, so you can't swap cranks between A and B engines..
