Hello from Slovenia, Ljubljana
I have a wish to buy a suzuki swift GTI 1990, and it would be my second not daily car. The purpose of it will be only learning how to drive fast and i will visit some light track days! I am thinking of upgrading it and may i ask what are your recomendations where to strat? which suspension or coilovers to go with? what are the best street legal tires (kinda going to federal 595rs-r if they will fit hehe. What about the engine optimisation? Like cooling, and which oil to add etc.. How much would all that cost? thinking about half rollcage too, with 4point harness.
Have a great day!
I hope this site still lives....

Double posts are not cool. Watch out for that.

Hello,
I just wanted to make sure somebody would see that, as there are less and less people doing this kind of thing :)

Start with the bits that stop the car. Good tyres, yes. road legal? don't know your local rules (look them up). Look at reviews but a high performance tyre on the road is good. Might think about getting a separate set of track tyres as really a bit of a waste on the road. others advertise as light track day tires. Start by looking at what is available in your preferred size too.

Brakes. Get good pads. You may find putting the newer Suzuki sport front calipers on (which fit) gives you better options. Rear pads use s15 pad and tweak the caliper to fit.

Suspension: Koni yellow inserts with a slightly lower harder spring. Few companies in Europe. Don't go too low. Other option is coilovers. Some recent discussions talk about some remaining options (BC, Tein).

Sway bars. Thicker front and rear.

Adjustment to camber and castor (e.g. adj strut tops)

Upper strut braces front and rear, and lower front brace.

Replace rubber bushes with polyurethane sets.

All above will work well and not overly affect usability on the road.

Check all connectors around the suspension as time may mean some ball joints are probably sloppy and due for change.

Consumables such as oil is about using right grade for conditions and changing regularly will do more than expensive oils. Cooling isn't anything special. Flush it and use a premix or concentrate and distilled water. Use a properly gapped set of plugs (NGK, Champion Gold etc). given age, change the spark plug leads.

Check your rubber piping. 30 years has likely done some damage leading to vacuum leaks etc.

Some of this will recover some lost horses over time.
