I have a Mark2 GTi and it's been having some issues with first and second gear. It goes into first fine but sometimes pops out of gear if on and off power. Went into second gear okayish but kinda seemed like it wasn't fully engaging and would pop out of gear, specifically if turning right  Just yesterday it has been having trouble fully engaging into second and sounds like it's grinding so I'm thinking it may be the gear selector? Any gurus out there that might maybe have some idea what is going on? I tried to ring Suzi Auto in Springwood but they're closed for remodelling..
Cheers guys

2nd gear synchro's tired....engagement teeth worn....im afraid its a new 2nd gear and likely the engagement hub.
box has to come out and be stripped.

Its very very common on these boxes...I have two where the 2nd gears are buggered....they are pretty weak...as is the engagement hub....when new they will last a long time but hammering on them kills them pretty quickly apparently. (racing) If first and second doing it then Id imagine the engagement hub is worn both sides..

Poping out of gear can also be the selector hub is worn as well. It might engage sort of but can’t hold it. What swift12 said

Contact Dave Homer on here as DMWDave or Daves Motorsport Workshop. He is at Meadowbrook.
