Hi All

I have bought some sound stream tarantula 6.5 inch splits (any one got these, whats the verdict?) and they are way to big to fit into my dash (96 GTI Swift) so I'm going to go the door pod route. I have done some research but haven't found anything specific to what im after.

I have teed up a pair of pro pods uncovered (pre made pods with no vinyl on them) to use as the base as Im lazy and dont want to fibreglass (cant afford to F*%K them up and waste the cash either) but as the pod wont cover the map holder holes i was thinking of making a base that goes under the pod and attaches to the pod and extends along the bottom of the door to cover the map holder holes etc. So basically cut a bit of MDF that will be the shape of the pod and the remaining part of map holder hole that isn't covered and then mount the pod over the top and cover both as one piece....

maybe put some graphics or text under the vinyl before wrapping it as well.

Couple of questions:

What thinkness MDF would people recommend....I was thinking of around 12mm as it needs to be strong enough to attach to pod and door trim but not to thick?

Will I have to use anything to mould the two pieces together where they join (if so what?) or will that not be able to be seen when completely wrapped in vinyl? Would body filler work and stick to both or is something else better.

Whats the best way to attach the door pod to the door trim from the back? I've seen things used on poker tables that are threaded and push into the MDF and stay there and then you screw a bolt from the other side, so similar to a screw but it screws to the thread not the timber??

Anyone placed graphics or text under vinyl....any tips or advice on how to do it? Maybe some pics?

Lastly is there a thread on here with pics of peoples door pods or would it be possible to start one as a picture tells a thousand words and Im not totally decided on how i actually want this to look yet,,,,Im pretty sure there would be heaps of people who would like to see that..

Cheers in advance for any advice, help etc etc

Mick
