Ignition map comparison.. First Mr HDT hdtignition.JPG 2nd RS (someone should go back to dyno school....) rsignition.JPG WOW, lots of difference here. Looks like MR HDT has managed to keep the advance very high in all areas. Much less jumpy between cells. Look at 1500 -70kpa on RS, it jumps from 15...

Re: NEW How much adjustment with Cultus cams. With Engine Pics

Thanks mate. Those figures for the Cultus, would they be FW Hp? I thought it would make more, but it is what it is. At least its drivable. Gonz, the 110 HP is at the flywheel. No way a gearbox is going to rip you off 50 HP. box.JPG 10% at most for the box + max another 10% at wheels. So about 20HP ...

Re: NEW How much adjustment with Cultus cams. With Engine Pics

Regarding the dyno, 58 horsepower seems low. Whats that, about 43 kw? The cultus motor gives 110. . How do you lose 40+ horsepower? I'd do a 0-100km/h run with a stopwatch , no third gear shift. Get 8-9 secs and you got power.

Better done slowly than rushed.

Well they must have changed it because the previous timing you posted looked all the same around the 1000/-70kpa area.

Is this guy going to password protect it as well???

Good luck 4 next week!

Re: NEW How much adjustment with Cultus cams. With Engine Pics

No worries.

If it held below about 13 at wot, it probably is due to too much advance somewhere.

Any half decent tuner should have done it in no time. You have a great ECU, stock compression, no turbo.

Re: NEW How much adjustment with Cultus cams. With Engine Pics

Yes 1:1 means that as far as the ecu is concerned, the flow rate through the injector remains the same no matter what the vacuum/boost is. The differential pressure is always kept the same , but not the actual pressure, that changes to keep the difference the same. So a 1ms injection always delivers...

Re: NEW How much adjustment with Cultus cams. With Engine Pics

The RJ seems to be just 1:1, so if the motor was tuned properly I would have expected the VE values to have increased quite a bit at high load compared to cruising, to get lower a/f. Perhaps they are relying on the ego correction to do all the work. Is this the new map or the one that melted the val...

Re: NEW How much adjustment with Cultus cams. With Engine Pics

Thanks Osc. Firstly, can we believe the torque curve on the Dyno I posted? It seems the Kw reading is rubbish (due to the inlet and ambient temp compensation which took place). The correction factor bring it back to 25 C (298K) Pcorrected = Pmeasured *(Temp/298)^0.5 So if they used 41C correction f...

Re: EOI: MK1 Air Con system

My experience with the mk1 air con is that they are too weak. When idling the compressor does not have enough capacity. This was with a regassed and checked system with hydrocarbon refrigerant (actually better than R-13), when it was legal for a while. With the new green gas it would be a joke.

Don't know what is causing it, but the way to temporarily fix it is to put a piece of cardboard between radiator and grille. Try blocking 20-40% of the area. You can disconnect heater hoses and back flush the core with a garden hose. Make sure to gently twist the old hoses directly on the core with parrot pliers till they loosen before trying to pry them of the core. Worked for me every couple of years

Just read an article in my old mag collection regarding the GtiR. Comments were that 1st and 2nd gear are too close and 3rd too high from 2nd for quick track racing. But on gravel the car really shines and was highly recommended. Also quarter mile was quoted by factory as 13.9.

I don't know the price difference, but surely the GtiR is a better machine. AWD for takeoffs, designed with turbo in from factory, 0-100kph in 5.6s and quarter mile in 13.5 stock. I cant put full power down in first gear just with 6 psi, so I don't know if there is any magic out there to fix this co...

The hole is on the inlet side because that is where most noisy lifters are, due to the slanted engine. It lets air out before it gets pumped into collapsed lifters in the morning. It must be tiny to let air out but restrict oil so as to still build pressure to lubricate cam bearing. Its drilled on t...

Re: turbo setup need help

The turbo restricts the flow by itself... In most cases it is the size of the hole in the banjo bolt on the oil inlet that determines the flow rate. If the bolt has the correct sized hole then there's no need to install a restrictor. I was under the understanding that the tiny floating bearing clea...

Re: turbo setup need help

Don't ever be tempted to put an oil restrictor in place for a journal bearing turbo. The only permissible case is when idle oil pressure becomes too low. The turbo restricts the flow by itself and even the smallest t25 needs a min of 1.2L/m, which is 200ml/10 secs - a lot. Spin it by hand. A journal...

First remove vac line and plug hose up. Then set dizzy to correct timing at idle and go for a drive. It it pings then remove weight from both weights. I used a 5mm drill bit at the same location on the weights. Repeat until no pinging.
