At least with the dash out it's a lot easier to see all the dodgy wiring sins commited over the years and tend to them...

Re: Just another neglected Black GTi

Still chipping away at the task. I've converted it back to non A/C with the air funnel/cone from the parts car, for a few reasons. Don't get me wrong I'm not crazy, I do like air con, but it didn't hold gas, there has been a mouse living in the AC interior unit and a simplified engine bay is a nicer...

Re: Just another neglected Black GTi

This past week or so I made a bit of an effort to strip down and scrap the parts shell. Which has now gone. So yesterday afternoon I spent an hour changing the rear seat fabric over. As the rear left had a broken rocker that locks the seat backrest down. Another job done. I did keep the old 92-94 fa...

Re: Just another neglected Black GTi

Originally I was planning on getting it onto the road, but the state that it arrived in means basically everything needs attention to get to that stage. I've done some sprints, hill climbs and circuit racing previously, so some low key club events will probably be the first use for the car. Chances ...

Re: Just another neglected Black GTi

Removing the CV turned out to be a headache, as it was stuck tight in the hub. I removed the control arm to get a decent swing at it with the sledge hammer after several days soaked in wd40 to no avail. So off to a friend's workshop, who worked their magic with a screw type leverage clamp and sledge...

The most glaring issue the car had, though there are many, was the front upper radiator support... ...which wasn't attached to the car.. Soomebody had drilled the spot welds from the old, accident damaged upper support and removed it. A replacement was on the car, but not welded on, with the front g...

Probably the wrong direction if your planing on a turbo conversion..well unless your cashed up. Before spending thousands on cams and an engine build (or any mods) a comprehensive service and getting it running reliably would top my list.
