Recently I've had issues with my car on hot days. I drive from wollongong to sydney to get to work. The last 3 days, my car has started having troubles usually after driving it for about an hour ( Miss firing, feeling like its running on 2 cylinders.. etc)

So when this occurs, the car farts and splutters for about 20seconds then the "check engine" light comes on. Once it goes into limp mode then everything is ok and it drives fine. Unfortunately it doesnt stay in limp mode, after a while the "check engine" goes off and it starts to misfire again.. Then another 30 secs the "check engine" light comes back on.

Unfortunately, Im having issues diagnosing the problem. Cause everytime, I've tried pulling over, popping the hood and bridging the diagnostic terminals. The check engine light has gone off by the time I start the car again..

The last time time I run the diagnostic. The check light was on and the light
flashed:

4 times then paused
7 times the paused
4 times then paused
7 times the paused

etc and the pattern continued

Should the codes blink all in one go or do they take pauses as indicated above ?

any input would be greatly appreciated

Have you tried resetting the ECU by disconnecting the battery? Better to start off with the reset ECU and see if the fault comes up again.

BTW, where exactly are these diagnostic terminals?

Hi,

I haven't disconneted the battery yet as this problem only happens on really hot days. I will give it a go to night. But I'm guessing the issue is cause by a sensor that is effected by the heat..

The diagnostic terminals are in the blue fuse box in the engine bay.. I will post a diagram of it later tonight if you like.

Whats the Suzuki designation for the Baleno?

SY416 SY418?

Anyone know? I might be able to get some error code info if I have it.

-edit-

Finally found it, a lot of Baleno's use 42 for the same code, but found reference to 47 finally!:

Awesome work bzchi.. Looks like thats the issue..

That code wasnt in my copy of Autodata.. and I wasn't reading the code properly so that didn't help either..

Now its all making sense. I have disconnected the battery to clear the codes ( its back to flashing 12 again )

Hopefully tomorrow is another hot day so I can confirm that is the problem..

Its crazy, the car starts misfiring in the same part of the road everytime. About 70k's from home :)

Cool, i came across that as well after I found out what the issue was.. I managed to replicate the problem again today after I cleared the codes on Thursday night.. Definately the problem, I called the local Suzuki dealership yesterday and they have one instock for $147. Seems to be fair for what it is I guess

The fact they have an item of that value in stock is indicative of it being more than an isolated issue. (IMHO)

Cheers

Nothing there at the moment... just a random bucket of Suzuki related material. As soon as someone posts the URL to the Suzuki guy humping the Honda logo the site may exist

If you are chasing anything else let me know ;)
