Recent interested in the GTi Cup has had me digging through my GTi archives, heres some of the results.

Round 1 Oran Park April 1995

Round 9 Bathurst September 1995

And the result of a lose at full noise going into Caltex Chase, Glen Mason clipped the outside ripple strip and rolled 7 times other the fence and well into the outfield. OUCH

It's a pitty i didn't know what GTi's were back in the early 90's. I would of loved to see them fly around the track.

The pic's of the smashed car, i can't even tell that its a GTi, thats some major damage :o :o

I'll see what else I can find. I only got to Oran Park and Bathurst rounds so they were the only ones I have photos of. Got plenty of magazine articles though. Plus plenty of old school Swifts

they look great, perfect wallpaper material ;) If you could find anymore that would be great, and a video of the whole/part race would be wicked!

Auto Action did a pretty big coverage of the event, from memory one of the entrants was writing for them at the time. I've got most of the reports at home.

White mk2 and black mk2.

White car is Peter (blackscoobydoo) and the black one is Sam Maio. Sams car is a bit faster than Peters....but time will tell for how much longer. They run in Improved Production. About time Tekkie steps up to the plate and shows them both a thing or two!

This is Petes car:

Okay i've just found all the Gti stuff and there is 3 lever arch folders full so this is going to take some time but here are a couple of pictures that i cut out of Auto Action-

The first is of Phillip Whalley at Sandown round 8, this was during practice, all the driver were told if this continued the guilty partys would be black flagged and banned from racing, it was getting pretty dangerous out there.

Image

The second is of Glen Masons roll catch by channel 7, this was the leading story on the news that night.

A mate of mine raced in this series, Adam Clarke, I was a couple of years below him at school. He won the series, to the best of my knowledge. Another friend then bought the car off Ron May, who owned the car that Adam raced, when they finished the series. Reg was saying that the car had a few suttle changes on it, but couldn't remember them all. Ron still has the cage out of the gti in his shed. I wonder when the Gti will be able to race in the classic races that they run for ex Bathurst racing cars?
I missed the recent article, is there a site that I can see info from the original gti cup?
Thanks........
