Just wondering if anyone had bought or test driven the new ignis, its a little bit quirky in looks but made more in the mode of older suzukis where they have gone for light weight(8??kg)
I have a 2017 3cyl mirage and it feels like your driving a cheap aluminium coke can around , very tinny and rattly with not much comfort, but awesome fuel consumption, just wondering if ignis is similar or better

Have not driven one but have seen one at the local supermarket carpark. White with black mags and a few other black accents and it looks really good. I think it looks better than the facelifted Swift. Seems to be more and more popping up around the area.

That's pretty impressive for a modern car. They all seem to be getting heavier these days.
Would be interested to see what potential there is in the new engines and if it can be boosted as it runs fairly decent comp ratio of 12:1.
Also doesn't look like there's much room for bigger (wider) tyres without flares?

I drove one a few months ago, actually the day it was released in NZ, yes it's light, it feels it too and the k12 engine is actually quite good, it didn't feel underpowered, space wise they did a great job of packaging it but the driving dynamics let it down as does the way the models are specced.

Steering is naturally too light but the ride height is ridiculous, feels like it's going to fall over, and has a bit of the typical small suzuki pitch and roll, it desperately needs some 40mm lowering springs and some decent wheels & tyres and then I think it would be a fun little town car, its just a shame that if you want a manual you can't get some of the "extra's" like sliding rear seats or height adjustment for the front passenger.

After getting out of the Ignis and into a new vanilla Swift you realise just how light the Ignis is.

Personally I'm hoping the new VW Up Gti will be sold here early next year, it's not much bigger than the Ignis and naturally a lot more expensive but I'm sure it will be as close to the original swift gti as we're ever going to get these days.

So is the next step to buy a written off Baleno Turbo and harvest the BoosterJet engine?

Do you still get the base model Up! over there? They discontinued it in Aus a couple of years ago due to poor sales. It's highly unlikely we'll see the GTi version here.

Well I don't ever remember seeing them at any dealer but here is a 2nd hand one sold NZ new apparently.

From all the road tests I've read, they are planning to sell the gti version in Aus early next year.

I've just bought a new Skoda wagon 2 weeks ago and asked the sales guy to put my name onto any EOI register for the UP Gti in the future, hopefully we can convince VAG to allocate some RHD models for this part of the world. [-o<

That's a hard no.

I was reading another article that says the Up GTi weighs just shy of a tonne. That puts it on par with the Baleno Turbo at 82kw/975kg (vs 85kw/997kg). The stocko Ignis is not much worse off in terms of power/weight at 66kw/815kg. Of course there's no argument that the VW would be a much nicer overall package than either of the Suzuki offerings.

At 8.8 secs to 100 its not 'fast' but the 230nm of torque does mean the hp/kg ratio doesn't look that flash on paper, I'm sure with the go-kart handling it will 'feel' fast.

Hadn't read that one, I'd still be very surprised if they didn't sell it in Aus though.
