Redlinegti members HELP!!!!!

I have a MK 3 GTi sierra conversion, it runs really nicely but occasionally decides to stop randomly. It has started to become more frequent in the last week.

What happens- driving along and its like a switch has been hit and the whole car turns off, normally I can pull over (rolling) turn the ignition off/on again and then start it back up and the car drives normally.

Recently it has been stopping and not wanting to restart. It took over 15 min for it to start again only to drive a few km's and it stop again.

The car has plenty of battery power so I can crank for a while, fuel pump is pumping fuel, I assume that there is plenty of spark.

Any hints or help is greatly appreciated.

I thought it might be a crank angle sensor issue or crank angle sensor but as its intermittent its hard to diagnose.

Or a MAF or TPS issue.

Help!!!!

If the 'whole car' is turning off then you can rule out the CAS, because that would only cause the engine to die. If you lose accessory power at the same time then it is a power/earth issue, likely a faulty connection somewhere. If you're only losing ignition power then start checking relays and power/earth specific to the ECU and coil/ignitor.

Accessory power is not lost the engine just cuts out and the dash lights light up, I've been driving this car and its happened to me. Its so weird. Its starting to get worse now and doesn't like to start for 15minutes sometimes. When it does start though it drives as though nothing has happened. It could stop again in five minutes or three weeks. Does anyone have any ideas?

My first advice would be to find a local with a ecu to check the ecu isn't faulty.

Hi,

Have you checked the ECU for error codes? Saves a lot of guesswork!

Here is the procedure if you don't have a wired-in fuse diagnostic port:

Check your earthing for the battery, engine and chassis.

Why dont they just call it "Womenapause" instead.
