Hi Moderators,

How about a cooling off period of four weeks after joining before new members can post in the 'For Sale-Cars' index?

So many times it seems that someone joins our forum and contributes absolutely nothing but feels free to try and sell their used car here. And usually with a single post count on the same day of joining and then they disappear forever. Isn't that what Gumtree is for? What about the Community spirit that Redline is renowned for?

I understand the fact that not all people are internet or forum savvy... and I mean no disrespect to the lurkers either! I also acknowledge that some damn good cars pop up sometimes that we wouldn't ordinarily see otherwise- so the forum members benefit! I even understand that some people buy a Swift and then think; 'Hang on... this car just isn't right for me'.

I just feel that the current system is somewhat open to be abused by some...

*ends rant*

Cheers,

Drew

For me this outweighs all else. In fact I can't see a downside to allowing anyone with a Suzuki to advertise here, even if it is their first and last interaction with the community.

Interested to hear what others think.

You can see their post count if it's low you can choose to deal with them or not.

Fair comments. Thanks for listening and also the quick replies.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that I'd love to see more passionate Suzuki fans on this forum who want to contribute to it rather than it just becoming a convenient used car lot for commercial sellers and/or blow-ins.

A four week cooling period would encourage real participation a little more methinks.

Cheers,

Drew

The way we trialled in the past was to have a minimum post count, but that just lead to spamming.. minimum time could potentially work better. I must admit though, I don't really mind if someone just blows in to sell a Suzuki (or parts) because everyone here benefits from more items being made available without having to search externally.

The way I think of it is. "will having a cooling off period make the for sale users contribute more?" and I think the answer is either
1. They will make an account and wait 4 weeks (maybe write an intro post)
2. Avoid it all together / not bother.. rather than hanging around and adding value / contributing to the community.

I think if they are selling their Suzuki they probably aren't keen to start hanging round and mingling with a bunch of Suzuki nuts :P

I think if anything, I need to spend more time making sure for sale posts they do get posted are of a good enough quality to stay posted.

I think cooling off periods are bad, nothing worse than signing up on a forum to ask questions and not being able to start a topic or access the sales section because my post count and time being a part of the forum either isn't enough or I haven't been signed up long enough... One of the forums I signed up on I can't even use the search function yet #-o

I'm going through hell at the moment trying to sort a few issues out with my new daily because of forums and there s**t policies.

We've been spoilt with this forum

I know this is a bit late to post , but some of the mintest suzuki's ive ever seen were owned by older 1 owner people . i have in the past suggested when they decided to sell their car they should join here to advertise it.
Some of these people struggle to even use the internet let alone join a forum to post a for sale ad , and then for them to join and find out they cant even advertise their piece of suzuki history for 4 weeks , is a bit of a turn off.

So you do get the idiots who want to sell their clapped out cino for $4000 , and on the other hand you do get some genuine pieces of work through . isnt it the moderators who decide what is within the guidelines of what can and cant be posted (thats what they get paid for right]

Anyway i think the cooling off period is a bad idea ..

Wait... moderators get paid? How can this site afford that if no ads are displayed?

I also agree cooling off periods are not the way to go...

I agree that the cooling off period isn't really a good idea although I accept the reasons put forward in support of the concept

I've actually enrolled on another manufacturer site because the company I work for has some personalised number plates which are "model specific" that they have decided to unload. It would be easy to place them on eBay or GumTree and they would probably sell cheaply to a plate collector who would most likely on-sell them at an inflated price. Management have suggested to me that they would prefer for them to be sold to an owner who would appreciate them for what they are...and I applaud them for this.

Unfortunately it looks like I will have to make a heap of "rubbish" posts before I can make a for sale one due to the rules of this site - which is exactly what bzchi wants to avoid for Redline GTi.

I think it's great for us to have the opportunity to see cars/parts on here which we may not necessarily otherwise find.

My 2 cents worth...
