Hey guys,

I recently got my G13B running almost pefectly in my sierra. The only concerning issue I have now is
a popping sound coming from the intake. to describe it best I would say the pops are in time with the engine firing but I'm not exactly sure of what it is as when I first started the engine it wasnt there, it randomly just started happening.

Any help would be so greatly appreciated :)

You might have an air leak from your idle solenoid hoses.

Plugs are definitely on in the right order, runs and idle's absolutely perfectly just has a popping sound coming from intake. I've checked the solonoids, all vacuum lines etc only to find that everything seems to be hooked up fine. I'm not too stressed about it, i just thought maybe someone might have had the same problem.

cheers

I have a faint memory that someone had the same noise, which turned out to be a faulty PCV valve or A/C air solenoid.

I noticed this on mine when a pod filter fitted. It was caused by the idle control valve.

Have you got an upgraded throttle body or Maf housing on?
I know increasing the Maf bore diameter throws the idle control valve into a frenzy and it pops constantly.

To confirm its the idle control valve making the noise. Pinch the line closed that leads to the icv.

Option I s to blank off the cold start valve and icv altogether.
Just ensure it doesn't make the engine idle unstable. Some older more tired engines need these to operate smoothly.

Confirming that it is 100% the IAC solonoid, it sounds like it is opening and closing the solonoid a thousand times a minute.I tested it out was opening and closing allowing air to pass through, and the resistance is 32 Ohms between the + and - terminals so it's all good as far as I and the workshop manual is concerned.

It has a POD filter on it at the moment as a temporary intake until I plumb up the Snorkel/ fabricate up a custom airbox for it. I wouldn't have thought that would really make that much of a difference but perhaps it is. I have made up a version of the standard intake pipe with the breathers installed, which is as close to the standard intake Inside diameter as possible.

The engine runs absolutely perfectly except for the rough idle, if you hit the accelerator, let it drop back down, it sits a little higher then you hear the solonoid open, the revs drop down, it makes the popping noise all of a sudden then starts to sound lumpy.

Did your idle become rough when installing the pod filter and noticing the popping noise ??
