A bit hard to comment, the article doesn't really say much.
But Suzuki came clean, admitting the issue publicly.
What is interesting is it appears Suzuki is largely privately owned.

With VW's indiscretions and this and no doubt many other manufacturers fudging economy results, perhaps we have reached the best efficiency to power ratios we can, and perhaps emissions standards are too strict. For auto manufacturing! The need to improve and meet these standards may really impact what we have come to expect from modern cars

"Since 2010 the manufacturer has been using the wrong method to establish fuel economy numbers for up to 16 models. But retesting those cars using the correct method indicates little if any difference in the results."

Not a big deal by the sound of it. Comparing it to dieselgate which was rigging cars to cheat emissions testing. I am sure there are more car companies cheating fuel economy testing.

 nothing new here.
Whatever the market needs, manufacturers make it appear to comply.
Back in the day cars had power quotes rated as SAE.
Supposed to mean society of automotive engineers but most manufacturer quoted figures were inflated for advertising hype, I still think of it as "Say Anything Exciting"
In modern times emissions and fuel economy out weight outright power claims..
Naturally manufacturers would take matters into their own hands sooner or later..

File comment: Ever heard of HyperMilers? The yanks obsessed with maximum fuel economy, they love sswifts/geo metros over there
This is a genuine advert from Ebay.com
Note locally a 3.5 is a base model cino box
It apparently a rare ratio over there.
