paint gearbox & engine block.. engine block from the donor gti had damage to the front right 2 engine mounting holes ,chipped, cracked strip helicoil threads only 1 acceptable mount hole .so i made a mounting plate which extended out to the original mounting holes for the exhaust manifold which weren't used because I'm using extractors . the the cast engine mounting bracket was shaved to compensate for the thickness of the made up plate . new pistons ,chrome rings ,water pump ,oil pump ,alternater, starter motor all new sender fittings.new new new. had a small problem with the new conrod bolts hitting the mains bearing support bracket , so filed a half round in it for clearance ..the engine was originally balanced, good crank new bottom bearings ,lighten flywheel faced new heavy duty clutch .suzytech heavy duty gearbox recondition {new bearings sycros]

yes cami the gti seat rails had to come off and use the convertible seat rails because the mounting holes in the body where different on just one mounting hole due to the strengthing brackets of the convertible body . so the position of the seats had just enough leg room for me [height182cm] the ultra room bar fits snug in the gti and bolts to the seat belt anchor with no loss of movement but i had to to make brackets up to clear the strenghting part .the seat belt is tight [full length] because i am a fat c**t

the forged con rods didn't have an .oil lub hole for the thrust side of the cylinder so i carefully drill same diameters as original con rod and use an old bearing as a position guide. not sure it needed it but i did anyway .you get that with big jobs.

Not sure if you swapped the front brakes too, but GTI fronts are larger than non-EFI models.

jet speed fibre glass front end was a pain to fit.alloy brackets cut shut bend. had to put a plate on top of the bumper to stop it warping
but it also acted as a solid mounting point

cat cams fitted 6700604 sport and adjustable cam pulleys .
pulleys are not the best quality [made in china not recommended] had to drill & tap to reposition the adjusting screws to get the full adjustment [advance and retard]before my mod ,to set the cams at normal position you had to set the adjustment on the pulleys at near full advance or near full retard position. also made a simple stay there tool[lock cams in position] which users existing 2 holes on head and adjusting screws on the pulleys

For Turbo your best with high lift and close to stock duration i believe is what i've heard, where Big NA Cams tend to come with more duration, overlap and lift.

What type of engine management will you be running if you go turbo? If you get a good ECU behind it, and have the cams dialed in you might be able to get away with it.. Or you could throw a Turbo chip into it and see what it does really.. It's not going to hurt it either way.

Just a tip, once you have everything dialed in, get rid of the Belt tensioner spring. If it dislodges and falls between cam belt and cam pulley it will cause the belt to skip teeth and bye bye engine.

thank you gtaye for the advice. the 2nd hand turbo kit that I'm looking at buying comes with a turbo chipped ecu .the kit is coming off a motor with cultus cams which i heard was ideal for the kit.but ya what 'do have to lose [$1.3million ]on the cat cams and[ $.9million] on dyno testing runs to dial in cams.and no guarantees it will work well  you get that big jobs.also do i need turbo pistons for lower compression.looks like i will be chucking an extra 6 months on the build. ..also thanks picture show man for the tensioner spring advice.

I would say, if you have had to modify the gears to get the adjustment, they weren't set correctly in the first place.

The original set look like the ones I used to supply, I have had no issue when these are set correctly.

The key ways should be opposite the "timing mark" on the gear edge. If they aren't they are never going to line up correctly.
