So this was originally my daily driver, doing 130km round trip in peak hour traffic each day back in 2007.
Was then an economic insurance write off after I hit a roo with it, but I repaired it and it continued it's service until my eldest son "bought" it off me.

After he got it yellow stickered for the second time (too loud, too low, & P plater) he broke the timing belt and brought in home on my trailer, then gave it back to me for parts.

I checked it over, popped a new belt on it & away it went. Has completed various hillclimbs, sprints, autocross, one rallysprint and a heap of motorkhana events over the last few years until being parked up & retired in 2012.

So after some fresh fuel and adding a battery, this thing was revived from it's hibernation in my yard at Collie:

By the time I got it on the trailer it was running fine, having cleaned out any old fuel residue.
Time for the strip down:

Despite the external appearance, regular oil changes have kept this motor in decent nick:

and the factory K&N filter if oiled properly will keep out even the dust from the speedway clay:

Now it's time to add the extra power it's been lacking.

Modified an old WRX intercooler I had, and rotated the TD04 housing which necessitated modifying the wastegate actuator mount:

The sump needed some serious panel beating, possibly from a rallysprint incident but more likely from when it was used as a pizza delivery car by a P plater!

Starting on the intercooler piping, I used a SAAS pod filter adaptor for a Nissan as it only required reaming the holes to make it a neat fit:

Was going to reuse most of the exhaust, but then discovered that it was a double walled job and very restrictive so I chopped that up with a bit of 2 1/2" Falcon exhaust and welded a bit of stainless instrument tube into the sump for the oil return:

So the next lesson learned was DO NOT RUSH THINGS!
As much as this is bare budget car, when I was told that it would take a week to get a new exhaust gasket and thermostat, I decided to bung the old ones back in despite their poor condition.

First trial startup without intercooler (excuse the crappy phone cam):

Everything leaked! Exhaust manifold, oil feed/drain and water from the thermostat.

Ordered the new parts and they were actually here the next day:

In the meantime I went about stripping even more weight from the car:

Better effort yesterday.
http://youtu.be/zw91clgBiMA

All the oil, water and exhaust gases stayed where they were supposed to.
Now to fit the intercooler.

That was the worst film I have ever seen. to think I set up for the full 10 hours waiting for the climax or twist...nothing.
Not a good film I give it 1 and a half stars, for effort and the frogs commitment to eye wobbling

Watch again. You've obviously missed the good bit. It's hidden in there around halfway...

(sorry for the 'spoiler')
