Just put a deposit on a mk1 gti.
Will be made into a 1600cc improved production sprint car.

Already have 2 g16b race engines being made.
The baleno my wife will race. Will have 180hp
The mk1 will get the fancy engine 210hp.

I will be using the 1600 swift sedan gbox with swift sport internals.

This will be a slow build.
First things will be to gut her and tidy her up.

Under CAMS Improved Production rules a Mk1 with a g16b will have to weigh a minimum of 965kg

You will have to add probably at least 200kg or more of ballast just to make legal weight

Not into the serious improved production.
Just fun at Morgan park.
And small time attack events at lakeside and qr.
Will be fun to race against the missus in her baleno.

You have my attention.

That's a lot of power in a mk1 body.

You have some challenges ahead.

Woah crazy!! 210bhp in a mk1 is heaps of power.

My current set up runs 120 and even that doesn't 'feel' underpowered at all. This thread has me very interested.

Wait...what engine will it be running? A zuki 16b? Is it going to turbo charged??

Cheers

Alexei

Hi Alexi.
210hp at the engine.
170hp atw.
Naturally aspirated mate.
The original g16a in the baleno rolled out 133hp atw.
That engine was never dyno tuned and that was before the quad throttles were installed too.

Keeping in mind that the engine will be darton sleeved.
So the engine may reach 1750cc.
170hp atw should be achievable.

Have you driven the car yet?

IMHO, They really don't need that much power to be enjoyable.

I think every mk1 owner would agree.

What bout pussonboost?
He has a k20 in his. I see no issue with having the extra power at the pedal when needed. ;-)

Fair enough, What is the record now?

And what exactly are you trying for? What does it run now?

14.1@93mph is the record.

I only just brought the mk1.

But my missus took the baleno down the 1/4 and got 14.7@98mph when it weighed 900kg.

Good to have the baleno in the low 14
Mk1 I would like to see 13 flat.
But who knows what will really be achievable.

13 flat seems a little optimistic, happy to be proven wrong though!
