The most expensive part will be wheels, tyres, koni shocks and the power steering setup. I'm budgeting around $4000 ao in total the car will owe me $4500 and that's not too bad at all. Of course budgets can blow out and things can go wrong but that's expected being a project car.

Wouldn't you rather put $4500 into your good gti and make that thing a weapon and keep this one stock standard for when s**t breaks on the modified one?
Not having a go or anything
Just curious :D

Sorry about the next post to squirt

Cappa, I'm building this one as a daily because my current daily GTi has a bent chassis and I can't justify spending money on paint and panel with the bent chassis. So that will become my weekend/hillclimb race car. Will be going 13:1 cr pistons, 935c camshafts with adjustable cam gears and upgraded valve springs. I have gsxr quad throttles being built by Craig (1600 GTi) and will be using pump E85.

This GTi is being built as a comfortable streeter hence the A/C and power steering but with a mild setup under the bonnet.

Are you using an epoxy paint?

I have had bad luck with acrylic and fluid spills.

Any tricks to stop fluids from really eating into it?

I'm using VHT engine enamel paint from a rattle can. I used it on my last GTi and never had a problem. Pretty hardy stuff.

Cool.

I'll give that a go next time!

Keeping the orange highlights?

Not sure about the Orange. The fluro green grille looks a bit quirky but I don't mind it. Looks good against the grey.

Hard at work again tonight. Cleaned up and smoothed out the other strut tower. Also found a rust hole that I have cleaned up and will be filling it with some weld.

More progress from last night. Put a quick base coat on the engine bay to highlight all the imperfections and by the look of it, needs a lot more sanding.

After a few more touch ups to the engine bay I think its done. Also test fitted the strut brace to make sure I had clearance for the msd coil and its a success. Now to hook all the brakes up and put the motor in! She's looking good so far.

Well she's registered and running well. Still a few small problems to fix up but I'll get to them. Got some presents delivered today for the new motor.
