Hey everyone,

This is my new build thread.
Engine is out and ready for complete rebuild.
Last race engine build was in 2009 and it made 133hp atw.

Just a little reminder of what has been done to my engine prior to complete makeover.

Lightweight Forged pistons and h-beam rods.
Tighe 793c race cams
Exhaust porting will be opened up.
Complete custom race exhaust manifold system.
New custom designed Quad Throttle bodies.

More news...
The G16a block is no longer usable.
So it will be donated to research.

We will be cutting the block in half to inspect the distance between the water jackets and the bore.

Maybe lucky to go to 1700 or more cc's
We will be using darton sleeves if we go down this road.

That's good to know. Thanks.

The cams I am going to use will need high rpm.
So I will have to ensure that I don't go to big of a bore.

10.5mm
But it's the duration @. 050" that matters.
And mine are 258 duration @. 050"

Nothing under 6000rpm
Goes to 9800

If I'd do it again I'd go less lift and maybe 270 something duration

I will have quad throttles. So 5,000 - 10,000rpm is my range ;)

Nice :-)

Yeah my turbo comes on full boost around 6100rpm and made power all the way to 9500 and it didn't drop off either
I guess thats a good thing
I didn't want to push past 10,000 I was concerned about reliability

I look forward to seeing this complete :-)

I've always wanted to do g13b head on a g16
But got warned years ago about the weakness of the block under boost..

I hope all goes well for you and the block holds up on n/a..

I'm currently In the process of getting my sleeves removed from my other gti that has the m15a in it, and sent to darton so they can replicate them
Apparently the material of my sleeves I got done years ago is rubbish
Hence why I've cracked the sleeve twice

Just wondering if its better to go for the Honda D16 crank for this build as sustained high rpm doesnt sound like a good idea for a cast crank that would otherwise do very well with lower rpm and boost?.

The Honda D16 crank is proven as a 9000 rpm engine with 130kws atw possible in NA but to see more hp than that from a g13b head would be amazing.

Dion and his brother who used to run Suzuki car busters campaigned a 1070cc sohc G16b headed G10 that revved to 10,500rpm and made 190+ hp, the thing was amazing racing against R1 engined midgets but his brother was a heavy framed big bloke that did well in regular 3rd positions but always just a tad short of the top 2 R1 setups.

Come on D.
Have more faith mate.
My last engine sustained 9000 rpm on stock crank and rods. Never missed a beat. And probably would have still been running now.....

It's all about tolerance and clearances and balance mate.
Just sit back and watch ;)

Thanks Dave.

There are a few options that I have.
I will leave all the technical parts to my engine builder.
We are only hoping that we can use the crank.
He doesn't deal with these small motors much so he may have second thoughts when he sees the hollow crank.
Yes the Honda crank and billet custom crank are on the cards.
I am sure he won't be making me a time bomb.
10,000 rpm is what I am hopeful for. So it may not even be achievable.
Every thing needs to be tested.
I will keep you posted.
I am leaning towards the honda d16 crank for reliability.
It kinda sucks that I may have to put a non suzuki part in her.

The baleno is going in for rebuild now. Just a small tweak.
190bhp

Getting mk 1 gti and going g16b with 210bhp

Blake. I will achieve this. And most of you will never know.

Looks good Dave.

Got a dilemma though.

I want to buy a mk1 gti.

But can't have 2 race cars.

I really want the gti!!!
But I have a soft spot for the baleno.
