Geez, all that work and money for only sub 100hp power? I would be very disappointed. A standard starlet GT has more power. Should just fit that.

Secondly, the noise the car would make will not be a sensible street driven car, plus you would have to rev it of its head just to make power. Your ears will go quicker than your enjoyment.

Hmmm, fitting a $2500+ Motec for only 100hp.

Whatever floats your boat.

Probably be more like about 5k by the time I'm finished.

It's a track car so the more sound the better.

Toyota would be last car I would consider as an alternative.

I agree I could spend cash for heaps more power etc etc etc

Motorracing is my hobby. People with hobbies do odd things that dont necessarily make financial sense or sense to anybody.

Did you check the angle the air will have to turn from the manifold plate to the port entries to valves?

From memory it's 11 degrees On centreline. I had to use this angle to get the height of the top of the trumpets as low as possible.

The runner to oval transition isn't machined about the centre, it's actually an offset cone. Amazing what you can do with solidworks and a cnc.

THe angle on the topside to the port is almost straight, whereas on the bottom side it is greater than 11 degrees.

I determined angles etc by looking at a cultus manifold As a guide, then playing with the 3d model until it visually looked good in terms of flow. A work colleague is an ex formula SAE student, so between us we used rule of thumb and eyeball to determine what to do.

I ensured the joint between The transition and manifold allowed for sufficient material removal by die grinding to create and curved smooth flow over these areas.

Guys STFU, don't fill up this good thread with all that trash talk, take it else where.

Racer5 any chance you can weigh that manifold??? workmanship is outstanding even if I don't agree with all the bends and sucking air from the hottest part of the engine bay where it's trapped, I would be looking blanking off the entire front except for the radiator and using a small scoop in the bonnet to force air into that manifold.

Credit where credits due, nice workmanship =D>

I will check weight, for now my guess is somewhere between 1 and 2 kg. (less than 2 ltrs milk)

Cool air intake is my next challenge.

Hoping To rig up cool air ducting into trumpet region + hot air deflection.

Last resort will be bonnet venting.

Like to do something like the early v8 super cars. They have a thin wide duct that runs from the front grill between the top of the engine and the bonnet feeding air straight into trumpets. They have a bit more space though.

Most likely will end up doing something dodgy like a couple of ag pipes!

Did you do the welding?

Tacking and fit of runners ( the hardest part) was done by a work colleague.

I got the Final welding and die grinding done by Ariel - (hope I spelt his name correctly) he specialises in manifold manufacture. If anyone wants his number I can pass it on.

Ariel charged $400 to finish off. Pricey but as you can see he is top shelf. I didn't want to risk having blown holes and penetrations in the runners by doing it ourselves.

If I end up with good HP then, "I will love the quads".

Has anyone got any info on the effects - inefficiencies on air flow if air filter foam is wrapped over the trumpets like in your picture?

I might need to do a similar setup.

You will gain more torque than hp with the quads.
You notice a massive amount of torque down low.
Filter sock are very minimal restriction. I wouldn't chance having no filter.

Have you considered a bit of porting on the head.
With the 952 cams and quads you will see good gains

For C/A intake....depending on space, an alloy plenum,or a rectangler box using the bonnet as the top...feed in could be from bonnet or 4 inch silicone pipe from front....wall off front in front of exhaust manifold. Unifilter make an oilable filter sock that can go inside the intake tube....these are normally used on offroad snorkels but are cheap and ideal for race car, also needs no room to mount. Efi hardware make trumpets suitable for silvertop.

Will have some sort of filter guaranteed.

I've made the trumpets, I will post photos soon.

Thanks for your ideas.

I've been quoted small gains, high cost, from head work. At this level of upgrade.

Brake vacuum lines. The larger hose on the right connects onto the brake booster fitting.

Quads fitted. Car has been delivered to tuner for motec m84 to be fitted.

Custom accelerator cable fitted. 1000mm long cost $120.

Gti accelerator cable holder was cut of a standard throttle body and welded onto quads assembly.

A big thank you to crisby for supply of gti throttle body and vernier cam gears as sponsorship ie free. Stickers will be on the car for next track day.

If your after parts for Gtis or any car crisby is the man.
He has recently acquired the largest and oldest auto parts company in wollongong.
He is owner/manager of Wollongong Auto Supplies.
I'm guessing they have a staff of 15. With a massive stock of parts.
Pretty sure he can freight parts anywhere Ph02 42299178.

Chris has been playing with Gtis for over 10years, he knows what he is talking about even if you don't.
