Why not look at gherkins springs and shock package good gear and good ride height?

Wheels will look good bronze, black will be too stark unless you polish the rims then you can machine the studs out it would not look out of place with silver there.

Do you mean polished lip? Cause I think it'd look good satin black with polished alloy lip and silver studs and centre caps.

At the moment I have to pay Ms Bligh for the privilage to drive my car on the roads and also need new tyres very soon. My finance minister would not look kindly upon me spending money I don't really need to spend at the moment :P
Can't believe it costs me $200 more now to register my Gti than it did to register my old 6cyl Val some* years ago :(

*by some I mean 15

Plus the Captains springs have been sold.

Yeah polish the lip but check the prices of new rims before going and spending money on these Rims and tryes are cheap these days.

Don't start me on rego I have been looking at V8's haha but believe it or not none of the Euro V8's I am looking at recommend you tow.

When the time comes just get new springs Kings are rather cheap but certainly not my favourite depends what would want to use the car for.

If you have no BOV then the sound you're describing is compressor surge. When the throttle plate snaps shut the compressed air has nowhere to go except back out through the turbo. Basically the turbo gets slowed/stalled by air in the system. I'm on the side of the fence that says that kind of thing isn't good for turbo life, and causes lag, but others will disagree. ;)

But it does sound pretty hektik!

Car is looking good...love how simple the outside looks.

I dread the day that a cop pulls me over to inspect the BOV that he heard as it does sound like it has one venting to atmo. 8-[

Cheers :D I prefer a stock looking Gti to a a/m kitted one, but I also like a few subtle changes so it's a little different to other white examples out there. ie black mirrors, black wing, carbon between the taillights and black inside the headlights/parkers.
The bonnet vent will go when I change to a new bonnet.
For some reason I miss the black skirts though :-k

Small update. Have now replaced my ugly piece of intake pipe with some nice and shiney ss pipes and black silicone bends along with a bov. Also replaced the small blue/clear vac hoses with black items. The bov is a turbosmart kompact plumb back jobbie and now that it is hooked up to my airfilter is relatively quiet. Was much quieter venting to atmo than the plastic bosch one I used a few years ago. Also changed back to an original cluster from the white birba one. The tacho wasn't working right and I'm sure the speedo isn't acurately reprinted either. Was fun taking 50k off the odo so that it matched my old one.

Really awesome car mate, one thing thats puzzelling me though this looks identical to mine externally, mines a '92 , however, yours has a very different shaped dash, with the vents in the door cards and the higher position of the stereo and the lip over the centre vents.
Why the difference?
Just i prefer the look of your dash to mine

That really winds me up because the mk2 dash is a much more asthetically pleasing dsign.
Can only be a cost cutting issue to end up with the mk3 dash.......A real shame

Cheers for the comment. 8)
Mine's a march 91 build so like azza91 said, it's a mk2. I dare say that yours has either had the mk2 bars fitted or someone has done a dash conversion.
Not 100% sure when the change was made but it was somewhere between 92 and 93 I believe.

Hey Mik it looks 100% on the pipework you had before, plus is that a dual stage boost controller i see in those pics i take it you are saving for a retune with high boost in mind say (20 psi), still looks really tidy i have to say it has always been tidy since i've known you and the gauges look better factory i never liked the white faced dials and notice it covered some of the 6th digit on the odometer.

Feel the mk2 love 8)
Sean, you must be getting forgetfull in your old age  the boost controller has been there for quite some time and the car is tuned to 18psi with only the actuator holding me back from 20 :x

That was one of the other things that annoyed me. The inlay must have been modelled on a cultus cluster (or other os model) as the 5 digit odo would fit perfectly. But then the speedo would be totally out as the numbers are very different. Fucked if I know

From memory they're Advanti Fin rims. The size I just checked, 15x6.5 ET40. Bought them new back in '98 when they were a relatively new design and had only seen them on 1 other car at the time. Several other companies made very similar rims to these and they are now dime a dozen.
Still want to get them painted black with polished lip but cbf spending money on them atm.

Only real plan is to save up for a 1600 gb conversion and one day take the dash out so I can replace the split crash pad with an undamaged one I picked up from dmwdave last week.
Must say though, I've had the car for over 3 years now (2 yrs @ 140hpatw & 1 yr with 186) and my gearbox is still going as strong as when I bought the car, so I don't know what everyone else is doing to bust theirs :P

Car accelerates faster now but is less scarey than before as much of the torque steer is now gone due to fitting the Toyo R1R's.
