Okay so I've had a GTi since February. It's been my first daily car but not the first car I've bought and worked on. I'd like to say that this isn't some annoying p plater kid that thinks it's the illest.

A bit about myself in relation to the build. I'm in year twelve so time and money is limited until about December but I try to do as much as I can. Love grassroots motorsport especially drift and am regularly out at Mallala for drift days. i've previously owned an R32 Skyline which I sold to my brother. We complied this car our selves, blew the head gasket, replaced it, replaced the water pump. And then I got the GTi, had a 'go next to each other and accelerate quickly' GTi won, 32's motor went pop! So we then carried out a full RB25 conversion from NA RB20. Did everything by ourselves in our shed with our own hands. We aren't mechanics and don't have workshop experience just kids learning as we go and making the most of what we can.

So enough about me and the thirty-two, onto the GTi.

I picked it up sometime in February before getting my Provisionals. Had 184'00kms on the clock, black, the usual stuff "wheels, lowered, tint, remote central, zorts, steering wheel, shifter, stereo"

Brought it home twinked with some s**t, ie just amped the speakers that weren't amped, cleaned the hell out of it etc

got provisoinals and drove it for a while learning what I did and didn't like about it. Decided that I didn't like the exhuast on it as it was a cannon with like a bazzilion inch outlet which i think are ugly and sound awful (didn't have too bad of a tone to it though) so got rid of it and replaced with twin 2.5" straight pipes also replaced little JVC head unit with single din fold out to double din LCD touch screen

Painted calipers black to freshen up their appearance without looking like a douche with red. In the process found out I had these bad boys (koni) which I was quite surprised by as I was under the impression it was just some cheap randos suspension set up

Got a Grp A ECU chip from Gtaye, would recommend if it's what you're after noticeable difference. He also gave me a lot of information which was quite handy. Drove it out to Mallala and met a friend, but unfortunately never met the owner.
not to sure why some photos are going in upside down but whatever :)

What came next hmm. Probably bought about $200 of bushes and camber bolts. Bushes mainly for sway bars. Was going to go caster bushes as well but decided i ceebz. Didn't get to install it for a while due to school and of course this s**t happened so a lot of time was taken away from my car...

But then I had time for my car so we decided to install the sway bar bushes (got all of them for front and rear) have 18mm rear and 22mm front whiteline sway bars. was working away when this s**t happened. Realised the sway bar had ripped the mount off from the car so had to get it all welded up, got it done somewhere as I didn't want to cut corners

only just found the place in line button so I can probably do it all in one post now, if it's still randomly rotating I don't know why.

Painted rear sway bar to stop it from corroding

which was exciting and quite fast, also drove a Mazda famillia GTX. After driving cars with big power I'm very tempted to do the turbo convo at the end of the year, probably instead of cams but still deciding.

Now we're up to last week. I've obviously skipped over a lot of details and frustrating things such as dealing with rubbing problems but that's all sorted.
gave it a wash more so to get the engine bay looking cleaner but here's some pictures, also got square plates

And I guess that brings us to today so now I can update properly.
Plans for the next month is fix dumb ass s**t, LHS headlight isn't working some sort of connection issue. Replace alternator belt on Saturday. Need to buy a new intake pipe as there's a hole in mine which I taped up. Bigger things for the future will be (maybe) get the whole engine steam cleaned. Definitely Replace O ring in dizzy and rocker cover gasket. Respray rocker cover in white with black lettering. Might sticker bomb interior panels like stereo surround - but might not... probably won't. Long term will be make my bloody mind up about the turbo conversion, would DIY except for things like oil feed and train. Would go for cheap and reliable (Which means I can't have power - my rule is it's two of three options, options being Cheap, reliable or power). Will do a lot of prep work before that though if I do do it. Might buy a set of Rota Flashback's (work equip 03 copies) couldn't if you're hating for buying fakies. They would be track wheels, or I'd decided which are track and street. have camber bolts which haven't been put in yet due to lack of tiime and organisation. Will soon upgrade rear rotors to slotted to match fronts. May also go braided brake lines (this is short term stuff which I'll do soon). Also considering going wider wheels (or cheap and spacers) hella hard suspension and going for the stance look - but probably won't as I hate dealing with clearance and that s**t. But yeah this is my GTi.
cheers
(sorry if pictures have random rotations haha)

Before getting wheels find out what semi slicks are available and in what sizes. Dont go overboard with mods, take it to the track and learn to drive it and then mod to make it better by reading the forum. Have fun with the new toy but dont forget speed at the track can end in a sudden stop.

Thankyou. Chances are I'll keep it reasonably factory and just continue with upgrading suspension and brakes as I prioritize it before power. More fun to drive a slow car fast then a fast car slow :)

Update: Taking it to the exhaust shop today to get the rubber piece in the bracket replaced with metal so the zorts can't move as it hits my coil spring when ever i turn left

Bit of progress this weekend.
Replaced alternator belt. 'Cause mine would not stop screaming it was horrifying. COuldn't work out why as I tightened it up every day and it would be could but by the end of the day screaming again. Decided I'd start fresh with a new belt. I then realized the other two bolts in the altenator (the one you don't losen and tighten when changing tension) were missing. Probably from when I changed the water pump I must have loosened them but forgot to tighten them and they fell out  Got it sorted and we're good again. Replaced a RHS headlight globe and have a bit of an issue. With the new globe in which is exactly the same as the old one (ie it isn't the globe that's the problem) it only gives a faint 'brown' light which illumintaes practically nothing and the light intensity/brightness doesn't change with high or low beams. Does any one have any suggestions?
Cheers

Fixed everything up, headlight had blown fuse and it's all cool now. Most probably buying a turbo with manifold and all intake piping. No fmic but no issue as I'll obviously just go buy one.
Couple of pics to keep interesting, same one just played with on iPhoto

Still planning out the turbo, little stuck on where to run oil feed from? And struggling to find time for anything but yeah, is going well. Anyone has any feed back happy to hear it :)

Bit of a quick update.
Bought a lot of parts this weekend - snail, manifold, cooler, intake piping, dump pipe.
now what's needed is
-Oil and water lines (found, still waiting until a later date before buying)
-New exhaust (perhaps)
-ECU chip (found, yet to buy)
-Modified sump (probably found, yet to buy)
-Walbro fuel pump (probably should buy one har har)
(EDIT) -Wide band oxygen sensor

Couple of pictures from today, quick iPhone snaps

Alrighty - so I've got a

-wideband oxygen sensor kit on the way from the states

-been trying to contact oz motorsport (but failing to get a reply) about a oil and water line kit.

-Ordered a GKTECH gasket for the T28 to dump.

-Also looking at buying a clear cam pulley cover and a carbon fibre spark plug cover. Have the rocker cover gasket, will get it sand blasted and paint it black (but considering other colours SUGGESTIONS PLEASE) after.

-Modified sump on Sunday

-Also did some electrical tape eye-lids they look alright but might take them off or redo them.

Will be stopping most work from next friday -> november ninth but still looking for parts.

Towards mid november will be when everythig gets going! :DDDD
