just to note that even RACV and other big insurance companies in Victoria rates the Vitara with g16b as one of the most reliable cars with the least amount of calls of any car.

Im sure the calls are for complete broken blocks but just a thought also how long they kick for in standard form is that they are avail from wreckers all over Victoria with some early 1988 to 1995 models just out for wrecking. Take a note of the KMS just here on Imlachs wreckers.
The KM are just after the engine number....one has clocled 374872 and adviced by a friend who checked it out that its the original engine numbers on all of them below.

As long as you don't put the g16b under more than factory strain it's fine and a reliable engine.

Start loading it up and that's when the crank and main caps start the dreaded stress cracks and the weird harmonic vibration damaged caused by the g16b.

Only person to fix this reliably replaced the crank.

too true however there is one member who thinks it can rev safely to 9k rpm with a stock block using worked g13b head. Now he is building it properly but still using cast crank for high rpm hp.

We shall see how the enigmatic big block will go in NA and lotsa work. There arent many d16 or whatever the right D16z6 cranks are floating around though.

It's not a crank failure for some reason it develops a harmonic vibration which causes damage to the engine over a period of time.

But that said I'm the first one too say to people give it a go trust no-one learn for your self as you never know it could be on a winner.

My original engine sustained 9k rpm all the time.
Did 60,000km street
And 3 years of track days.
Never once let us down.

It has only once caused us grief. And that was human error.

I stand by my g16 bottom end.

And my new engine is almost ready.
