Hi guys,

My 2012 Sport CVT has begun malfunctioning. I've only done 58,000km in it.

It started last week after a long drive.

I slowed down to go on to a roundabout (20 - 30 km/h) and when I went to accelerate, the motor revved without the gearbox engaging. After a few seconds the gearbox seemed to slip into gear with an almighty bang that was heard and felt strongly through the car. This quite shocked me.

Since then, my car has been doing this when slowing down and attempting to accelerate again. To get around this problem I'm using manual mode when slowing down and this helps.

I had LubeMobile come out and check it today. No fault codes came up. He drove it and could feel it happening. He suggested taking the car back to their workshop for a gearbox pressure check.

I've decided instead to have Suzuki look at it next Tuesday. Perhaps this is something they've encountered before. A couple of years ago there was some recall for Swift gearboxes, but when I phoned them at the time, they said my VIN number was not one of them.

Anyway, does anyone have any idea what could be happening?

Kindly.

I have had quite a few people phone looking to buy a good secondhand cvt gearbox for swift sport so its not uncommon to have issues with them .I would certainly be taking it back to a good suzuki dealership and get them to run a full diagnostics check on the gearbox. You will be shocked to hear the price suzuki want for a new gearbox ,I am pretty sure I was told over $8000, which is why people then try and buy secondhand.
No idea what the problem is but you need to get it acted on fast before it becomes irreparable.

A diagnostic check revealed no fault codes and in the end it was simply changing the oil that fixed the problem. The car had done 58000 kilometres without having a gearbox oil change!
