 dame that is one sweet motor..... i would have loved to have a 1300 twin cam in my baleno....

was there a lot of custom work to make the head fit the g16a?

From what i know on how it was changed over. No there wasnt much custom work to make it fit. There were custom mounts needed to make the vitara g16a block suit the baleno. I was told to go with the g16a over the g16b because it has a stronger bottom end. I also think dohc timing belt got in the way of the original mounts. I will post more pics soon (like modified parts custom exhaust setup and all the making of the new motor) I will also ask my engine builder more questions of alterations he had to do.

if you got that on a run in tune there's still a fair bit more to get out of it
what fuel were you using
are you still running the lightned flywheel
and hows the cvs coping with the new power

keen to see it run

congrats
keep me posted

as for engine mounts use your standard mounts just get them poly filled i think hertz can help you with this

I like that a lot :D What pistons are you running? wouldn't a N/A G16A have been an 8V motor?I thought that the G16B block was supposed to be stronger.

They are oversized cultus pistons.
G16a went to 16 valve after 1996.
In guess bottom end of the g16a is stronger due to having to pull the vitara around.

OK, over here we still had an 8V G16A Vitara up to 2001, early Vitara 16V engines were G16A, later models were G16B. My 2000 year Vit is a G16A, my 1999 Baleno engine is a G16B. I understood that the G16B engine was stronger because of additional balancing on the crank, maybe it makes it weaker at high revs.

Maybe so . I am only going off what i have been told. So some people may forward me incorrect information. It seems to handle the high revs fine.
I checked wikipedia on the g16 family and it says that g16a went 16 valve after 1996. Which was also put in the X-90 but yes vitara used g16b after 1994.

Yeah i got your boys to rebuild the cv's they are coping so far.
Yes still using the lightened flywheel. Thinking about taking a couple more kilos out too.

With the dyno results would it be better to put original rolling size on cause the 126hp i got was with 17's on 45profiles std is 15 with 50profile .
cheers

changing tyre O.D. is like changing final drive... doesn't really affect peak power as long as the engine can rev... it does change your torque output though...

original tyres are 175/70/R13, which is slightly bigger -O.D. wise- than 195/50/R15...
go to: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html for more info.

hey guy nice project I did the same thing with my baleno but i used all baleno ecu wiring .Its pretty standard but it runs completely different to the single cam head . Also i replaces the gear ratio with gti ratios and it moves like a rally car . Just wanted to know where i could get a strut bar for mine and do they make lower strut braces for them ?

I will post my project .

Hell yeah man that looks good hey. Keep me posted on the hp output. Its good to see more people using the twincam idea. It is proving worthwhile.
The ratios in the baleno are long that is why i have got freaking strong valve springs to take it to 8,500.
You can get strut braces in aus but there $400au. You can get lucky once in a while and find someone selling one.
Goodluck mate cant wait to hear more.

Put the car on the dyno again but didnt get to do a power tune but corrected the rich and lean areas and ended up with 132.66hp atw , next time will be the power tune and adjust the cams too now estimating 140+hp atw
Referring to the pic the 86hp is prior to the engine rebuild. The long one is in 4th gear but ran out of kph due to freaking long gear ratios exceeding 230kph.

I think the timing belt is off a d16a honda. Code on the belt is 76125 x 26
For the timing cover god knows my engine builder is going to fabricate one for me. :D

I just found this out the hard way (two trips to the shop for parts)
The belt needed for gti head on G16 is Honda CRV
 125 tooth, D16 only has 104 or 107 teeth depending on model

No this one is conventional (reco g16b bottom end with reco gti head)
When I say hard way I mean multiple trips across perth to purchase belts
The d16 belt didn't look like fitting haha

The belt is from a honda b18/b20 but I saved confusion by mentioning the 76125x26 belt size to be sure.

There is also a gates blue racing belt available. Which I have already.

Part number T247RB
