Rather than sourcing a Forza bar from the US you might find it easier to get the bumper from an ML Barina. Same thing with a slightly different grille.

That is assuming you're trying to swap your GTi bumper for a Forza one, and not the other way around... it wasn't very clear from your post.

i have a set of bars here but it wouldn't be practical to ship.

I would suggest keeping an eye out for a ML or non gti swift as mentioned above. you will pick up a whole car for ~$400, get to keep the bars and brackets, spare panels, door hinges and a heap of other bits and then get $200 bucks back for whatever steel is left.

edit: and then extort the community by charging $750 for your fog-lights and GTI bar.

That sounds like a good option with buying a whole car. But the offer still stands if anyone can get the barina bumpers to the Gold Coast. I have 2 mk1 and dont need extra parts. Ill even chuck in the foggies.

My car is an 86 but had an 85 front welded on after a smash. I then went to fit the 84 lights but found they were different again. 3 different front ends for the MK1!!!

The bumper sits out a lot further on the later model, i had to cut the bar back a bit to make to fit. The reo is different too and I had to weld the two together.

pictures tell a 1000 words:

I checked out your build thread last night. Those lights look really good more old school tuff. Not that I want to copy but I have been looking for a barina with this front and want to convert my one, maybe just the recessed lights. If that can be done? and looks alright. have a little problem with the front guards linning up with the blinkers? Not pulled it apart yet but thought that either someone put them on wrong or another model car maybe barina?

the guards are probably the issue they are made of tin foil and so much as lean on them and you will find that the lights will stop lining up.

I have seen an overseas late model MK1 with recessed lights, but i dont think it looked as good. I'll find a photo and post back

I have seen photos of these before from the states. I have no idea how the headlights mount to the front panel. Perhaps there is a fourth variant on the MK1 front end!!!

I think flat grill like yours looks better than that one!

I've seen that last style of late mk1 front end on a couple of cars here in australia. They came on the GA model Swift (3cyl)

I agree that the "flat" grille looks much better than the later slope style.
HOWEVER
as Sobil has indicated, there is a lot of work required to change it to this grille and headlights.
I had one of each (3 cylinder GA) - '87 and '85 - and attempted to swap them as I also preferred the look of the earlier car. I abandoned this as a bad idea when I had both cars sitting beside one another with their fronts exposed. It's definitely not an easy job as Sobil has indicated with the pics to show why.
You're also going to have an uphill job actually finding an early SA Swift or ML Barina as these are now around 30 years old, so most of them have long since disappeared. There weren't very many of them around even when they were new so your chances of obtaining either a whole car or even the required front panels are very slim. The simplest option would be to try to find the front bumper/grille from the '87 Barina with the similar grille, minus the fog lights. Neo's red car has this Barina grille and tail lights and looks pretty good.

I can find new ones equal quality of OEM, the only bad thing is the shipping cost from my country...
