Really sick of this hearsay.

The reality is you guys know nothing more about it than me, owning a New Swift doesn't change that fact.

Granted it may well be going to Europe for testing but I would have expected to see something from Japan first.. maybe we weren't that lucky.

I am putting forward an alternative theory as to why this has UK plates which I think is valid. As no one can confirm or deny either way I don't see what the problem is?

Additionally, what facts are TheMotorReport basing their claims of AWD on? the fact they are available in AWD in Europe? They have been since inception. They don't list their sources, so to me it's no more valid than me saying they are likely to release a 2 door here in 2010 because they have them in Europe. The whole article looks like it was lifted off carsguide and reworded.

CarsGuide, with sections taken from Carparazzi (July 10):
Quote:
Carparazzi forecasts a number of changes for the new Swift, including an all-wheel drive system - probably from the SX4 - and a diesel engine. There are also rumours of Swift hybrid, although not until 2011 or 2012.

TheMotorReport (August 3):
Quote:
Little is known about updates to the engine range, although many reports suggest that a diesel engine will be added to the line-up, along with a possible all-wheel-drive system.

CarsGuide (July 10)
Quote:
The Carparazzi team says the next Swift will go public at the Paris Motor Show in 2010, which means it is just over a year from a final production sign-off.

TheMotorReport (August 3)
Quote:
The new Swift is expect to make its debut at the 2010 Paris Motor Show in October next year, with its market debut likely to come in late 2010 or early 2011.

Usual 'blogosphere' BS. One site 'reports it', sites copy it, then other sites claim that 'many reports' or 'multiple sources' are saying the same thing to try and make the information sound more credible than it is, when the fact is they all originate from one story.

TheMotorReport don't even specify their sources.

-edit-
Carpoint article posted August 10, same photos, different spin (Saying Japanese built -> European tested.).

All good points brought up in your message and I accept that it took some time to compile.

And, after consideration, you may well be right. I base my assumptions on recalling the spy shots that emerged before the current Swift was released. I remember spy shots of a Swift tearing around a Japanese raceway with a helmeted Japanese driver...however, much mention was made of how the suspension was tuned to "european" specs...whatever that means!

Of course, the Swift update we're now seeing spy shots of may also be getting trailled in Japan and we're just not seeing it yet, or perhaps they've decided to trial it in Europe for any number of reasons. But where they trial it doesn't surprise me knowing that many European car companies travel the world with pre-production models to test them in places like the Australian outback or in Arctic conditions.

It looks like it's got disc brakes on the rear.

The rears look too big to be drums (like on the current car) and there looks like a silver calliper in there?

Edit. If you save the pic and zoom in it's definately discs.

Rear caliper is visible, and is exactly the same colour as the front one. Also if the contrast on your monitor is good you can see the disc pretty clearly ;)

Good call. I was looking for a more definitive picture, didn't realise that particular image gave it away. ;)

So let's see...it's got rear discs, same as the current Sport, yet only 4 studs, same as the current basic Swift. What does this tell us? The new Swift will have discs all round on every model.

If it was it would have 5 stud wheels, I highly doubt they would go back to 4 stud for a Sport.. that was the point above ^

Thanks for spelling it out, wouldn't have deduced that without you!

Well if you read and believe the above posts.. 2010 Paris Motorshow is when they expect it to be unveiled... so Sep 09.. might be a little optimistic.

From the Carpoint link

Quote:
Local sales of the new model are due to start in early 2011, exactly six years after the current model went on sale.

Fans of the Swift Sport hot hatch will need to wait another 18 months for the all-new version, so make that October 2013.

What I did notice is that the headlights are longer than the current ones. In other words, they continue further up the bonnet. Not sure if that makes the bonnet look longer.

If motoring journos are to be believed then the next Swift generation will be slightly larger, so it stands to reason that the bonnet will be a bit longer, but as Hari pointed out it could just be a visual deception caused by the longer headlights.

Seems strange that they are talking about a Fiat diesel when VW now is a partner (unless there is a contract to use the engine for x period) :-s

Using a FIAT Diesel for the Indian market could be correct. The current 'new' Swift over there was launched using a G13BB motor to keep costs down. They've recently switched to a K12 engine to keep in line with the Alto.
