Later mk3 blocks have a Knock sensor boss on the back of the block.

Later mk3 blocks have a Knock sensor boss on the back of the block, particularly Cultus. Sometimes threaded, sometimes not but it can be seen just to the right of centre at top of pic.

Yup, I'm using a g13ba block. Not sure if it really makes any difference but the ba blocks would have had an easier life (generally speaking) compared to a gti block too.

mk1 block is different.
You can fit mk2 engine into mk1 but not the otherway due to mounting holes not there.
Try to find mk2 ph1 onwards and others are all same.

Cheers

We have found over the years there is a difference in the webbing/casting of the blocks some types of webbing seems to hold up better than others under high hp.

I believe the G13BB is the later model coming in the Jimny etc....I just bought a Jimny block as recommended by RUNUTS that built the ITSMAD 300+HP 4WD GTi....

The Jimny block I have is from a 2002 model and it carries steel main caps which is what I really bought it for and it has way less mileage on it. It also has provision for a crank sensor and the crank sprocket with 5 teeth built onto it...

Hope this helps

Kemar

Not sure if the Jimny crank is forged but I wouldn't be using anything from the block other than the block shell & mains. The GTi crank and forged rods & pistons are what I'll be uusing. Probably run the crank sprocket from the Jimny for crank angle sensing as my engine will be going into a samurai and the distributor wouldn't fit and I would like to go COP..

Only the Gti used forged crank.
G13BB carry van (also 1997/98 cino G13BA) had same engine block as jimny
G13BB has cast solid fully counter weighted crank
I sighted my first steel main G13BB yesterday, out of a 2000 model Jimny.
All other G13BB etc engines I've seen used aluminium mains
