I started up my Ignis this morning and heard an almighty bang opened up the bonnet and the airbox is in pieces with black smoke pouring out. The engine runs fine so I think the car just backfired but are going to get a mechanic to totally check it over. Has this happened to anyone else?

The car just had an engine rebuild 6 months ago so I'll looking at that as the likely cause. Where am I going to get another airbox?

Looks like the after market temp guage I had fitted may be the culprit, a mechanic said that the ECU needs that signal to provide correct mixtures and my old mechanic (now officially ex) didn't wire it up to the ECU.

Does anyone know if the Ignis Sport air box is a standard part? Swappable with swift engines?

Bad luck, sorry to hear that has happened
Did it damage any other parts in the engine bay?
Not sure if the IS airbox is interchangeable with the Swift?
They look very similar, but the attachments that hold the airbox to the intake manifold might be located differently?
Have you tried any wreckers, or as a last resort a Suzuki dealer?
Maybe post a WTB ad in the parts thread on Redlinegti?

Cheers mate. The airbox is shattered but the airfilter is intact so a bit of gaffa tape to hold it together and its functional with no leaks into the engine. Not optimal maybe...

I guess that's what happens when you trust someone, I'm annoyed because it didn't sound right at the time and I queried about it but the mechanic said it would be fine. The problem is the car is sensing it's freezing cold from the old sensor which is just sitting in the engine bay, and so the ECU is dumping fuel into the engine. In summer it was just running a little rich but now that it's cold this is a major problem.

Unfortunately the mechanic stripped the thread on the temp housing so I can't put the old one back on... it's too risky it will blow out. I basically need another temp housing. Does anyone know if this part is the same as a standard swift?

I'm going to try and call Suzuki today and see what they say...
